How to enable and use Android developer options

The Android developer options allow expert users to make changes in the depths of the system. To prevent you from accidentally enabling the developer options in Android, Google has hidden the feature with a little trick.

Android developer options allow you to make technical changes to the system.

How to enable Android developer options

If you want to have an unrestricted access to your Android operating system, then you need developer options. You can unlock these on your device using a trick.
  1. Open the "Settings" on your Android device. You can recognize this by the gear icon.
  2. Switch to "Phone Info" and tap there on "Software Information" (in previous Android versions, this item is called "About Phone" or "Device Information").
  3. Scroll down in the device info until you see the item "Build Number". Now comes the trick: tap on this entry several times. Between the individual touches, the display will show you how many times you still have to tap to activate the developer options.
  4. Then go back to the previous menu. There you will now find the separate entry "Developer Options".
In newer versions of the Android operating system, you can also find the developer option under "Settings" > "System" > "Advanced" > "Developer Options".

These features are offered by the developer options

In the developer options, more options are open to you:
  • Debug options
  • Error reports
  • Network settings
  • Input options
  • Rendering with hardware acceleration
This also makes it clear why the developer options are not visible from the start: They are not even necessary for normal use of the mobile device, but in return it is possible to permanently damage the system. Deswegen gilt: Nutzen Sie die Android-Entwickleroptionen nur, wenn Sie genau wissen, was Sie tun.
