It was rumored for several months now, now comes the confirmation directly from Sony: the PlayStation 5 will arrive during the holiday season of 2020. So between November and early December. The Japanese company has published a post on the official blog of the console and has also released an exclusive interview to the English version of Wired in which anticipates some features of the console.

The PlayStation 5 will be a revolutionary console in many respects, starting from the management and installation of video games up to the Dualshock controller that for the occasion has been completely revised and improved to make the experience of players more immersive. The console will also have a dedicated hardware for the management of ray tracing,  functionality of the graphics card now become a standard on high-level devices. In the article on Wired, Sony wanted to put great attention on the SSD: the higher speed of reading and data transfer will allow a selective installation of video games, with each user being able to deliberately decide what content to install on the console. Finally, the user interface has also been revised to make the relationship between player and video game more direct.

What is the name of the next Sony console

Although doubts were minimal at concerns, Sony has made official the name of the next console next gen: PlayStation 5.

When the PlayStation 5 comes out

With a post on its official blog, Sony wanted to make official the date of release of the PlayStation 5: Christmas holidays of 2020. A date quite obvious: in the same period Microsoft will launch the Xbox Project Scarlett and it is quite normal that Sony wants to do the same.

The features and innovations of the PlayStation 5

Sony wanted to anticipate some of the features of the PlayStation 5. In recent months there has been much talk about the appearance and hardware innovations that Sony is studying for its console. For the first time it is the Japanese company itself to talk about it.

Sony has focused on two aspects: SSD and ray tracing. Let's start with the latter. As Microsoft also announced for Project Scarlett, the PS5 will have a dedicated ray tracing hardware chip present directly inside the GPU. The graphics technology will be used to improve the quality of video games and will play a key role in the console.

The SSD is one of the features Sony is banking on the most. The solid-state drive will not only make loading video games faster, but it will also allow for more user customization during the installation phase. According to a report from Mark Cerny (PS5 design chief) to Wired, gamers will be able to decide what content to have on the console. For example, they will be able to install only the multiplayer mode and later the single-player one, or delete some content after completing it.

The PS5's disks will be able to hold up to a maximum of 100GB and the player will be able to read Blu-Ray as well. The presence of the SSD was necessary to speed up the installation of games.

PlayStation 5: changes the graphical interface

For the console, Sony engineers have also thought of a new user interface that will allow you to interact more directly with the individual content of video games and have a general overview of the goals achieved directly from your personal page.

PlayStation 5: new controller features

In addition to all the new features we've just listed, PlayStation 5 will also have a new joypad. We don't know the name yet, but Sony wanted to anticipate some news: it will have a haptic feedback and adaptive triggers (L2-R2) that change depending on deklvideogame.

The haptic feedback will allow players to fully immerse themselves in the story and experience different sensations than before. Adaptive triggers, on the other hand, change resistance based on context and video game, giving developers the chance to experiment with innovative things.
