Una nuova avventura è in partenza per i Los Angeles Lakers, la squadra di basket 17 volte campione dell’NBA. The title has not yet been revealed, but what we do know is that it will be a comedy series centered on Eliza Reed, the young director of the Los Angeles team.
Two years after the announcement of the drama series by Adam McKay, which traces the golden years of the Los Angeles Lakers and which is still waiting for the airing by HBO, now Netflix relaunches with a new project. Writing the script is Elain Ko, former writer of Modern Family, who will work alongside the executive producers of The Office: Mindy Kaling and Howard Klein. These very names suggest that the new series will be of the comedy genre, given Kaling's past, also known as the creator and star of another workplace comedy series: The Mindy project.
Los Angeles Lakers: what's the Netflix series about
Although the title has not yet been disclosed, what we do know is that the series about the Los Angeles Lakers will consist of 10 episodes and will be broadcast on Netflix's streaming platform. Just like The Office and The Mindy Project, the series will be inspired by the professional and personal dynamics of the family that owns the famous NBA championship basketball team.
In particular, the series will focus on the figure of Eliza Reed, who flanked by her best friend will have to deal with family dramas with both the team's owners and its players, which include basketball players and stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
The Netflix series is based on the script written by Ko, who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer. Executive producers also include Kaling, Klein, Lakers president Jeani Buss and Linda Rambis.
Los Angeles Lakers: other upcoming TV series
The Netflix project is just the latest of the proposals launched on the history of the Los Angeles Lakers. In 2019, HBO has announced a drama, also yet untitled, about the NBA team with McKay, who already won an Oscar for best original screenplay for The Big Bet.
McKay is also the director of the pilot episode and executive producer of the series, which will star actor Adrien Brody as legendary coach Pat Riley. Other actors include Jason Clarke, John C. Reilly, Quincy Isaiah, Solomon Hughes and Molly Gordon. Hulu also has a Lakers-centric docu-series in the works.
