The Korean manufacturer has presented the "definitive" model of the TV that rolls up. Equipped with a 65-inch OLED panel, it is compatible with Siri and Alexa
The rumors circulated in recent days about LG's news at CES 2019 begin to find confirmation: the Korean manufacturer has in fact presented the first OLED TV that rolls up, the LG Signature OLED TV R (65-inch model 65R9). This TV is the evolution of the prototype also shown at CES last year, but also the heir to the 65- or 77-inch Signature OLED TV W renamed, for its size, "Wallpaper". This is an innovative TV that brings great news to the market in terms of both technology and design.
According to LG, the Signature OLED TV R will integrate perfectly into modern homes, where the available space does not always allow to commit an entire wall for a large flat screen TV. The LG Signature OLED TV R was therefore created to combine the high visual quality offered by an OLED screen with the convenience of a projector, which only takes up space when actually used but cannot reproduce the contrast and black depth of a television.
How is LG's TV that rolls up
The LG 65R9 has a minimalist design: from a brushed aluminum base with a high-quality wool speaker cover, which rests on a thin rectangular frame, the screen partly or completely emerges when the TV is turned on. There are three possible modes in which the LG Signature OLED TV R can operate: Full View, Line View and Zero View.
When fully unfolded (Full View) it is for all intents and purposes a 65-inch Smart TV with 4K resolution and second-generation Alpha 9 processor, equipped with the latest technologies such as Apple AirPlay 2, Siri and HomeKit. When the screen is rolled up only partially (Line View) it becomes a very low and wide display, on which you can project the time, weather, temperature or a stream of photos. When the screen is fully rolled up (Zero View) it disappears inside the base but this Signature by LG can still be used as a stereo system, thanks to the soundbar with 4.2-channel Dolby Atmos system and 100W of power with front firing. LG guarantees that the opening and closing mechanism of this display is designed to withstand no less than 10 thousand cycles.
This smart TV is also compatible with Amazon Alexa and has sophisticated AI-dedicated electronics that improve sound and image quality. Since it is fully connected to the Internet, it can play music and videos from iTunes, as well as from Apple devices with which it is fully compatible. At the moment LG has not announced the final price of the Signature OLED TV R, nor when the exact date of the start of marketing, which, however, will be within this year.
