The wearable market is in a stalemate, companies like Google, Apple and Samsung will not present new devices in Las Vegas, but all does not seem to be lost
The CES, the trade show dedicated to technology that takes place every year in Las Vegas, in the last edition has reserved several important news for the wearable market. This year, however, we have to expect much less from the wearable accessories sector in Las Vegas. Watches, fitness trackers and the like have entered a phase of stalemate. What should we expect for the future?
The 2017: year zero for wearables. 2016 had started with the launch of Fitbit Blaze right at CES, while the year before it was smart watches that took the lead. After the initial enthusiasm, however, 2016 proved to be a tough year for the wearables industry. In a particular way for smartwatches. This is due to several factors, from cost to competition and especially for the poor appeal to consumers. It is likely that at CES we will see again some very useful wearable for health, clothing or fitness but we are unlikely to find ourselves in front of an impactful event such as the presentation of a new Apple Watch or Fitbit.
The absence of Google and Apple
Proving the declining interest of manufacturers, at the moment, in this sector are the absences of Google and Apple. Neither of these two major companies will bring a new wearable solution to CES. Of course there will be no shortage of apps and accessories to accompany their devices. The same goes for Samsung, which will focus more on TVs, home IoT and smart appliances at CES. Fitbit unlike the other realities had a great 2016 but even the Californian company, besides a few updates, will not bring anything else to Las Vegas.
