Which Galaxy S20 to choose: the comparison

The comparison between Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra: here's which one to choose based on features and price

In the Galaxy Unpacked 2020 Samsung presented the new Galaxy S20. These are three new top-of-the-line devices that share the same hardware architecture, but differ in screen size, number of cameras and, logically, price. Each device is designed for a very specific audience and choosing which Galaxy S20 best suits your needs is not easy.

To make an informed choice you need to compare every single feature of the three smartphones. Do you want a compact smartphone with an affordable price? Then the Galaxy S20 base model is the best? Do you want a camera-phone that can take pictures comparable to those of an SLR? There's nothing better than the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Not interested in 5G, but want a device that is powerful and balanced in every feature? Then the choice can only come down to the Galaxy S20+ 4G. Here's a comparison of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Dimensions

Size matters, especially when it comes to smartphones. In an age where devices are getting bigger and bigger, many are looking for a compact smartphone that can be used with one hand.

The new Samsung phones are all three very large, with increased dimensions compared to last year, despite the fact that the South Korean company has gone to great lengths to optimize bezels.

The Galaxy S20 has a QHD+ screen with a 6.2-inch diagonal and 120Hz refresh rate.

With the Galaxy S20+, the size increases to a 6.7-inch diagonal.

Finally, the Galaxy S20 Ultra a 6.9-inch display and a weight that exceeds 220 grams.

Technical data sheet

There's little doubt that we're dealing with top-of-the-line smartphones with a technical sheet that's superior to 99% of the devices on the market. The three Galaxy S20 share most of the hardware components: Exynos 990 processor with 8, 12 or 16GB of RAM and 128 or 512GB of internal memory. Only the LTE versions mount 8GB of RAM, while the 16GB of RAM can be found in the highest performing version of the Galaxy S20 Ultra. The other models have 12GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, as well as support for 5G.

Cameras

The number and type of cameras is one of the reasons that can make people choose one model of Galaxy S20 over another.

The Galaxy S20 "base" has a triple rear camera with a 12-megapixel main sensor, 12-megapixel wide-angle camera and 64-megapixel telephoto lens. Thanks to the Space zoom function, the optical zoom is 3x, while the digital zoom goes up to 30x. 10 Megapixel front camera.

On the Galaxy S20+ we find a quadruple rear camera: 12 Megapixel sensor, 12 Megapixel wide-angle, 64 Megapixel telephoto and ToF sensor for depth of field. Space zoom function is present. 10 Megapixel front camera.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra always has four rear cameras, but the main one is a whopping 108 megapixels.

Galaxy S20

  • Galaxy S20 128GB LTE: 929 euro
  • Galaxy S20 128GB 5G: 1029 euro

Galaxy S20+

  • Galaxy S20+ 128GB LTE: 1029 euro
  • Galaxy S20+ 128GB 5G: 1129 euro
  • Galaxy S20+ 512GB 5G: 1279 euro

Galaxy S20 Ultra

  • Galaxy S20 Ultra 128GB 5G: 1379 euro
  • Galaxy S20 Ultra 512GB 5G: 1579 euro.

Quale scegliere

On the other hand, for those who are looking for a balanced device, we suggest buying the 128GB Galaxy S20+ 5G.
