Beware of Instagram apps that promise to increase your number of followers, cyber criminals are often behind these services
Growing your circle of followers on Instagram is not easy. You need to have specific skills and work hard with periodic goals. Or you can use ad hoc apps that allow you to increase the number of followers on Instagram. The only problem is that some of them were stealing users' data
The malicious applications were discovered by ESET, a company specialized in cybersecurity, which immediately reported the danger, especially to safeguard the sensitive data of users and companies. Many companies, in fact, are willing to pay influencers or experts in the field, to be able to increase the number of "followers". Too bad many have used apps to gain followers. Apps created by hackers that pretend to help users and companies to increase the number of followers, but that actually stole the data to resell them.
The discovery
The scam, as we have already said, was discovered by the cybersecurity company ESET. The company found several applications that, promising to gain new users, stole user's credentials. The technique was very simple, although the system is very sophisticated. Once the user, with the ambition of becoming a famous Instagramer, downloaded the fake app, it would ask for the credentials of the social to be able to log in and start earning new followers. Come capire se l’account è stato violato
ESET ha anche spiegato che esistono alcuni dettagli che devono farci insospettire e farci verificare se il nostro account è stato manomesso o rubato. Ad esempio, l’aumento sospetto del numero dei seguaci oppure ricevere risposte da sconosciuti a commenti mai pubblicati. Se notiamo una serie di questi dettagli il consiglio è quello di modificare all’istante le nostre credenziali d’accesso. Non pensate che si tratti solo di un caso, le app per aumentare i seguaci sono molto in voga su Instagram ed ESET calcola che il fenomeno di queste applicazioni maligne abbia coinvolto almeno un milione e mezzo di utenti.
