From the beginning of March 2019, the first edition of eChampions League, a Champions League tournament to be played with Fifa 2019 and PlayStation 4, will kick off. How it works
At the beginning of the year, ahead of the launch of Fifa 19, Electronic Arts made an agreement with UEFA to be able to officially use the Champions League brand within its soccer simulator. A double blow: on one hand, EA Sports has managed to steal one of the most valuable brands from Konami (and, consequently, to PES 2019), on the other, the U.S. developer has offered its users an additional tournament.
Not only: the agreement with the association of European football federations has allowed EA Sports to study and implement an eSports tournament with the teams participating in the Champions League. Thus was born the eChampions League, a virtual tournament for PlayStation 4 that will allow the best Fifa 19 gamers to confront each other by choosing one of the teams participating in the Champions Cup 2018/2019. What will win those who manage to win the eChampions League? As much as 100 thousand euros (the total prize pool is 280 thousand euros) and credits to be used in the video game.
How the eChampions League works
The formula chosen by Electronic Arts for its eChampions League closely resembles the organizational formula adopted by UEFA for several years now. Between March 2 and 3, the preliminary matches will be held, necessary to select the best 64 players in the world. The winning gamers of the preliminaries will then face each other in live matches scheduled for April 26 and 27. This round will allow to skim further the group of participants: the various meetings, in fact, will identify the best 8 players Fifa 19 ("the world elite" according to the same U.S. developer) that will clash in the event eChampions League Live Final scheduled for May 31 in Madrid. Just one day before the final of the 2018/2019 Champions League.
