The iPhone 12 could have a higher starting price than its predecessor because of 5G connectivity
The price of Apple's upcoming iPhone 12 series hasn't been revealed yet, but it looks set to be higher than the iPhone 11.
According to new rumors coming from China, the base price of iPhone 12 could be $749 compared to $699 for iPhone 11. An increase dictated not only by 5G support, but also by other components such as the OLED display. Even on the names remains uncertainty, with the version with 5.4-inch screen that could be called iPhone 12 mini and not simply iPhone 12. The only thing so far certain, is that the iPhone 12 will come in 4 different models by size with screens of 5.4 inches, 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, all with the much-anticipated A14 Bionic processor.
iPhone 12, price on the rise
Recent rumors point out that 5G support has bumped up the base price by 50 euros, thus going from $699 for the iPhone 11 to $749 for iPhone 12. In addition to 5G connectivity, the cost of the new iPhone 12 could also go up due to the presence of Apple's new A14 Bionic processor. iPhone 12 will come with at least 4 GB of RAM and an OLED screen with 120 Hz refresh rate.
To the price, however, users may have to add two big absentees in the box: chargers and earbuds, just like the Apple Watch 6 Series and Apple Watch SE models. The Cupertino company has justified the absence of these accessories in the packages as an environmental choice, but perhaps behind there could be a strategy to keep costs down, already raised due to the components.
iPhone 12, what will they be called?
At the moment we know that the iPhone 12 models planned are four, two "normal" and two Pro. The main difference concerns the size of the screen, with the smallest model with a 5.4-inch diagonal, then two 6.1-inch models and finally the largest 6.7-inch. Until now, the two normal models were referred to as iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max respectively, but a new rumor could lead to a different nomenclature.
The 5.4-inch Apple smartphone could be called iPhone 12 Mini, and consequently the version with a 6.1-inch screen would become iPhone 12. Unchanged instead the rumors for the other two models, whose names should be iPhone 12 Pro for the 6.1-inch model and iPhone 12 Pro Max for the 6.7-inch one.
