8 years of Instagram: go back to 2010 and find out how it has changed

Instagram turns 8, from a simple platform for sharing photos to a business machine with a lot of influencers, here's how the social

Today, the photos posted on Instagram aim more and more to perfection. Filters, lighting effects, special angles, people have learned how to make their shots more "attractive" to gain followers and many likes. But it hasn't always been like that.

We have learned to use Instagram and take photos with effects only in the last few years, the social media for photos in fact has been available since October 2010 and over time has changed a lot its policy for sharing and the use of filters. If we take a step back in the past we'll discover an extremely different platform than the one we use today, especially after the acquisition by Facebook that has also changed its logo. When it was launched, Instagram had more "amateur" and spontaneous features: in order to gain followers, in fact, it was not necessary to think too much about the shots. Today, however, behind each post there is a real study necessary to understand what is the best image to publish among all those we have made. Just scroll through our profile to see how we too have adapted over time to the changes in the social media looking more and more for the perfect shot.

How Instagram has changed eight years after its inception

Initially, Instagram was a much less business-oriented social with influencers, companies, in-app purchases and so on. It was simply a different way to keep in touch and communicate with your friends online using photos instead of posts with text. Photos didn't need as much care as they do today to be successful, also because most people had a circle of followers limited to real life friends, Facebook friends and also followed the first VIPs who were interested in the platform. Let's specify one thing: photos on Instagram didn't get better just because smartphone cameras became more and more preformed over time. The social media has slowly incorporated a number of features for editing and improving our shots. For example, if you have an account from 2011 or 2012 you will remember the frames. Yes the photos on Instagram in the beginning were "embellished" with frames to our liking. Not to mention the filters that were much more cartoonish and strong than the current ones.

The social of the new generations

Of the various social media of the first hour, Instagram is certainly the most used at the moment by teenagers. From its inception to today, Instagram has moved in leaps and bounds, so much so that it can now boast 1 billion monthly active users, of which 500 million use the platform every day. There are about 50 billion photos shared instead, with an average of 4.2 million likes per day. On the statistics front, however, we find that about 68% of members are women and about 59% of people between the ages of 18 and 29 with Internet access use Instagram. And social is in fact the platform of the new generations if we consider that among the over 30 to 49 years old only 33% claim to have a profile on the social network of photos. The most impressive numbers, however, are among minors: about 72% of teenagers with Internet access have at least one profile on Instagram.
