Huawei presents at Mobile World Congress 2019 the Mate X, its first foldable smartphone. It will hit the market towards the end of 2019. Here's what it looks like
It was the most important device of Huawei's conference at Mobile World Congress 2019 and it didn't disappoint expectations. The Chinese company finally unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the Mate X. Huawei is betting big on this innovative device, a smartphone that can become a tablet and that can become an irreplaceable companion at work.
The Chinese company has adopted a completely different philosophy than Samsung. The Mate X does not have two displays like the Galaxy Fold (one internal and one external), but a single external screen capable of folding in two. When open, the smartphone has a size of eight inches, while once folded it offers the possibility to use a 6.38-inch rear screen and a 6.6-inch front screen. To make it easier to hold the device, the Mate X integrates a side bar (M Bar) where the three cameras and the unlock sensor are located. The smartphone is also 5G thanks to the presence of the Balong 5000 modem that allows to reach a download speed of 6.5Gbps. The Mate X will hit the market in the second half of 2019 at a price of 2299 euros, a decidedly high price.
Features Huawei Mate X
In the presentation of the Mate X, Huawei focused on three features of the device: the thickness of only 11 millimeters compared to 17 of the Galaxy Fold, the download speed thanks to the Balong 5000 modem and ultra-fast charging (85% battery life in just 30 minutes).
The Mate X has a very unique design: the screen has neither a notch nor side bezels. The sensors are integrated into the M Bar, a side bar that helps to hold the smartphone when it is fully open. The design of the device is very unique. The flexible screen is present on the outside of the device and once opened has a size of 8 inches. Thanks to a mechanical system it can fold in two: the front screen becomes 6.6 inches, while the rear one is 6.38 inches.
On board we find the Kirin 980 chipset supported by 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, expandable with a 256GB nanoCard. On the sidebar are the three cameras of 40 Megapixel, 16 Megapixel (wide angle) and 8 Megapixel (telephoto). There is also a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) sensor. Dual battery for a total of 4500mAh with support for 55W superCharge that allows you to charge the device in just under an hour. In addition to the Balong 5000 modem, all the main sensors are present. The biometric sensor for unlocking the smartphone is present on the sidebar.
