Starting February 23 on the platform comes 249 movies, 42 TV series and 5 Star Original content: here's how Star will work and the full catalog.
Everything is ready: Star, the new channel dedicated to general entertainment is about to land on the Disney+ streaming platform. The full catalog, available from February 23, 2021, has been made official by the company. At launch, audiences will be spoilt for choice: they will be able to watch five Star Original titles, as well as cult TV series from years past, including Grey's Anatomy and Lost.
But that's not all, a long list of films will be available from launch. The peculiarity of the new brand is that all content is aimed at a more mature audience, compared to those long present on the platform. In fact, Disney+ was born purely for the entertainment of children and young people, but with 2021 the company has decided to broaden its horizons. To protect minors and help parents keep the platform under control, a Parental Control will be activated. In short, everything is ready: all that remains is to discover the full catalog available from February 2021.
Disney + launches Star: how the channel will work
Since February 23, Star will be visible on the platform alongside the other brands, namely Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. So all you have to do is touch the appropriate box to access the appropriate catalog and watch the content.
More films and TV series will not be suitable for an audience of children and teens, but don't worry: Disney has thought of that too. Parental Control will be activated: adults will be able to select a PIN code to type in to watch certain content. This will allow for more control over minors accessing the platform.
Disney +: Star will offer movies and TV series for everyone
At launch, Star will also include original content. Among the upcoming titles will be Big Sky, a crime thriller created by David E. Kelley (who worked on The Undoing - The Unspoken Truths) but also Love, Victor, which is the spin-off of another hit content Yours, Simon. Also coming will be the animated series Solar Opposites and other content designed exclusively for Star and Disney+ audiences.
The platform will also offer the opportunity to watch hit TV series, including Grey's Anatomy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Griffins. There will also be critically and commercially acclaimed series such as Donald Glover's Atlanta, winner of an Emmy and a Golden Globe, as well as Shonda Rhimes' legal drama Scandal and the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Modern Family.
Those who prefer to relax with a good movie will be spoilt for choice: from The Devil Wears Prada to Braveheart to the cinematic milestone Titanic. Already in February, 249 films, 42 TV series and 5 Star Originals will be released.
Jon Koeppen, President of The Walt Disney Company EMEA, expressed his delight at the arrival of the new brand and the extensive catalog: "Star will be an integral part of Disney+, making it bigger, bolder and even more exciting. The arrival of hundreds of movies and TV series, including our exclusive Star Originals, will make Disney+ the ideal destination for high-quality entertainment for all tastes. Ovviamente tutto questo verrà accompagnato dal parental control per garantire tranquillità ai genitori".
Insomma, Star è l’ultimo tassello di un progetto importante che coinvolge il pubblico di ogni età, dai più piccoli, che possono divertirsi con una marea di titoli pensati appositamente per bambini ai ragazzi, fino agli adulti, che finalmente hanno un canale pensato solo per loro, con titoli per ogni gusto e genere.
