Honor V40 is finally here: it is the first top of the range after the split from Huawei and there is no shortage of novelties.
Honor V40 is official: it came just a few hours ago the announcement of the Chinese company for what will be the first smartphone after the separation from Huawei and that is already making talk about itself, thanks to a list of technical specifications of the first order. What can we expect from this new device? Certainly, a lot of high-level features at a low price.
Just a few days after the appearance on the network of the official renders, Honor has chosen to drop on the table all the cards with the announcement of the phone, dispelling any doubt about the features that outline the profile of what has been christened Honor V40 5G. As anticipated, this is the first phone to see the light after Huawei's choice to sell the company, a choice also strongly influenced by recent pressures due to the grip of U.S. sanctions. If for Honor this has meant the impossibility to exploit part of the technology developed by the parent company, the counterbalance has been the possibility, at least on paper, to exploit the services and the apps of the Google Play Store outside the Chinese territory, freeing itself from the AppGallery of Huawei.
Honor V40, all the technical characteristics
How is the Honor V40 model made? At first glance, the 6.72-inch display, the manufacturer's first with an OLED panel, with a double punch-hole for the camera housing and an 80-degree side edge curvature, doesn't escape notice. Interesting choices when it comes to resolution, a Full HD+ of 1236×2676 pixels, 10.7-bit color depth, 120Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling rate. Other important features are the DCI-P3 color space and the fingerprint reader, integrated into the screen in fact already used previously on the Nova 8 Pro model officially presented last December.
Inside, to replace the proprietary SoC Kirin of Huawei HiSiclicon, we find instead a MediaTek Dimensity 1000+v 5G chip, able to provide the necessary support for 5G connectivity that characterizes the smartphone. There are two possible configurations of RAM and disk storage: 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage, or the same RAM but 256GB of space. For the occasion, Honor also renews the acceleration engine: to improve the gaming experience will be GPU Turbo X.
From the point of view of the battery, the smartphone can count on a 4200mAh accumulator, as well as support 50W wireless fast charging. Completing the overview is the dualSIM slot, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac connectivity, NFC reader and USB-C type charging and data transfer port. All this will be managed by the user through the Magic UI 4.0 interface, based on Android 11.
Honor V40, camera features
Starting from the rear side, Honor V40 mounts a four-lens module: the main one with a 50MP RYYB sensor and 1/1.56-inch width, followed by an 8MP ultra wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro pair. On top of that, there's an LED flash and laser focus unit.
Including settings, there's one for taking dual scene (front/back) photos and 4K HDR timelapses, super portrait AI RAW engine, enhanced night mode. There is also a setting for super slow-motion videos at 1920 fps. On the front side, however, selfies and video calls can take advantage of the 16MP lens, accompanied by the ToF lens for depth estimation.
Honor V40, price and market launch date
With the official announcement of the features Honor also announced the launch price of the new V40, available in Magic Night Black (Black), Titanium Silver (Silver) and Rose Gold (Gold/Pink). The prices of both configurations are around 500 euros; the first one, i.e. the one with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space, will arrive on the Chinese market at a price of 3,599 Yuan (just over 450 euros), while for the second one with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage the final price is 3,999 Yuan (about 507 euros).
Although the sale has already been opened in China, international markets should be able to wait until the second quarter of 2021 to grab the interesting proposal of Honor house. In particular, the device might peep not only with Google's services and apps, but also with a different name: Honor View 40. To finally untie even these last knots, we just have to wait.
