Silencing WhatsApp on Android

Before you start, you need to decide what you want to mute: you can remove notifications from any chat or select just a few.

To completely mute WhatsApp you need to go to your phone's settings and then follow the path Applications and Notifications > WhatsApp > Notifications.

At this point, most devices, allow you to block all alerts, mute only sounds or choose the so-called "short views" that appear for a few seconds on the screen while you use the phone, but then disappear.

If instead you want to mute a single chat, you need to start WhatsApp and select the desired conversation. At this point, you have to tap the menu located in the upper right corner, next to the name of the contact and group, and then the "Disable notifications" item. The system also allows you to choose the time period: 8 hours, 1 week or 1 year. In addition, you can check the item "Show notifications" if you want to keep the alerts in the screen.

New for iOS: mute WhatsApp on iPhone

As it happens for Android, also on iOS you need to access WhatsApp and select the conversation to mute. Dragging your finger from right to left on the chat opens a menu where you select the item "More" and then "Silent". Also here you can choose the time period: cancel notifications for 8 hours, 1 week or 1 year. To avoid the appearance of the symbol of unread messages just do not check "Show Notifications". This will eliminate any warning about the arrival of messages. Of course the messages will arrive, and the sender will never be notified of this operation.
