Huawei P50 will have a camera with Ultra Vision sensor

Huawei is preparing to launch perhaps as early as March 2021 the first smartphone of the P50 Series: it will have a top of the range camera, with Ultra vision sensor and imaging system renewed in toto

Huawei is now in the starting blocks with the launch of the new P50. As it happened with the previous P series, the camera will once again characterize the flagship smartphones of the Chinese company; this year the place of honor would be reserved for the Ultra Vision sensor and a completely renewed imaging system.

Huawei is absolutely not new to the use of cutting-edge technologies in the photo/video compartment of its high-end phones and the new P50 series will be the first smartphone without Android. In the past years, the Chinese manufacturer had already been ahead of its time with the introduction of completely innovative systems such as the Cine Camera, for recording high quality video even in low light conditions, or the camera with periscope zoom, with a magnification capacity that makes its competitors pale. The implementation of Ultra Vision, the largest CMOS sensor currently available on the market, dates back to the launch of the P40.

Huawei P50, camera news

According to a well-known tipster on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, the Huawei P50 would be arriving as early as March 2021 -in accordance with previous P-series launches during the first quarter of the year-with a state-of-the-art imaging system and lenses once again produced by one of the industry's leading exponents, namely Leica. The company's approach is similar to that used for the Mate 40 Pro: Ultra Vision sensor, with RYYB color mapping, capable of capturing 40 percent more light than its competitors.

The sensor supports pixel binning, so you can get pixels as small as 2.44 μm, while the use of Full Pixel Octa PD AutoFocus allows you to take advantage of ultra-fast focusing in any lighting condition. To this is added a completely new element, the FreeForm ultra wide-angle lens that reduces the natural distortion of images taken with this type of lens.

Huawei P50, probable technical specifications

Camera aside, already since last December tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer had shared via his twitter profile a CAD render of what could be the front side of the new P50 Pro; in evidence, the single punch hole of the camera dedicated to selfies. A little more information was provided last December by leakster Teme, who talked about the technical specifications of the base model P50 and the Pro+ version.

Both smartphones would feature a screen with curved edges and 120Hz refresh rate, smaller at 6.6 inches for P50 and slightly larger at 6.7 inches for P50+. Both versions should then mount a Kirin 9000 processor, with a 4,300mAh battery and fast charge support at 66W for the basic model and 4,300mAh with fast charge at 50W for the advanced one.

In common, however, would be both the glass and ceramic design, the completely renewed support for gestures and the EMU 11 based on the Android 11 operating system. Last detail is the rear camera: for Huawei P50 the choice would fall on a four-lens module, while for P50+ the lenses would become 5, both equipped with a powerful 200x digital zoom.
