enable iOS 12 screen time - always keep an eye on the time

iOS 12 brings a whole range of new features. Among them is the "screen time" feature. Through it, you get real-time reports detailing what you spend how much time doing on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. You also have the option to set time limits.

Enable Screen Time in iOS 12

To enable Screen Time, all you have to do is go to the settings of your iOS device. There you will find corresponding options.
  1. Tap on the "Settings" app on your iPod touch, iPhone or iPad.
  2. Navigate to the "Screen Time" item and tap it.
  3. There you will find the "Enable Screen Time" option.
  4. Tap on "Next". Then select either "My [device]" or "[my child's device]". The second option only works if family sharing is configured.
If the feature is enabled, you can always view the reports via the "Screen time" item in the settings.

Set limits and restrictions

In addition to the detailed usage report, you can assign a daily limit to certain apps or categories via the "App limit" option. For example, you can set that you can only access productivity apps during working hours, but not social networks. Furthermore, you have the option to block content, purchases and downloads. If you want certain apps not to be affected by the restrictions and limits, you can set them as exceptions. Default exceptions are the phone app, messaging app, FaceTime app, and maps app.
