Apple would also plan to launch a Plus version of its budget smartphone with a 5.5-inch screen. Here are the characteristics
The low-cost smartphone from Apple doubles: apparently the Cupertino company is about to launch on the market not only the iPhone 9 (or iPhone SE2, it is still unclear what the name will be), but also a variant "Plus" with a larger screen.
It can be guessed from the code of iOS 14, which is still in beta but on which the first leaks have already come out, within which references to two models of cheap iPhone have been found. The hypothesis seems to make sense, because it is assumed that the output of the (or) new iPhone 9 will lead to the release of the iPhone 8 range, now declined in normal version and precisely "Plus". But not only that: the fact that the two iPhone 8 have a diagonal equal to, respectively, 4.7 and 5.5 inches suggests that these are precisely the size of the future iPhone 9. Only, until now, all the rumors spoke only of a 4.7-inch iPhone 9.
iPhone 9: how they will be
At this point we must begin to speak in the plural. The two iPhone 9s will both be powered by the A13 Bionic chip, the same as the latest iPhone 11 range. The other features, however, will be lower-end. The result will be two smartphones particularly interesting for those who today have an iPhone 5, 6 or 7 and want to update it, but is not willing to pay too much for a top of the line phone.
An iPhone 9 with A13, moreover, would have a long life since at least two years would pass before starting to need much more power than what is available. Sure, there will be limitations: the iPhone 9 and 9 Plus will have Touch ID but not Face ID, they'll also have a physical home button with Taptic Engine (so no moving parts), and they'll have low-to-medium resolution screens. For the rest, it is thought that they may have compatibility with Apple Pay features, as well as the ability to scan NFC tags in the background (something that today only the iPhone XR and 11 can do, but not 8 and 10). For the photographic compartment nothing "explosive", but a simple 12 Megapixel rear camera.
iPhone 9: when they will come out
The date of presentation and that of arrival on the market of the two new iPhones is the real unknown. Initially there was talk of spring 2020 as the maximum limit, in order not to present a cheap smartphone in a period too close to the presentation of the new top of the range for 2021. Then the coronavirus came along, stopped many factories in China and is stopping the entire European economy and perhaps the U.S. economy as well. And there's no telling how long it will last.
