The Korean company is preparing to launch the first smartphone with three screens on the market. It should be an evolution of the LG V50 ThinQ
In just a month LG will present a new smartphone with three screens. The presentation will take place during the IFA Berlin 2019, scheduled from September 6 to 11 at the German capital. The phone will be an evolution of the LG V50 ThinQ presented in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and, perhaps, will be called LG V60 ThinQ.
The announcement of this new smartphone was given directly by LG, with a teaser video posted on YouTube in which you can see, stylized, a device with two screens that, when folded, shows a third screen of smaller size. Unfortunately, in the video we do not see anything else, except the date and time of the presentation (September 6, 2019, at 10:00 am) that appears right on the third screen. What seems clear, however, is that LG wants to respond with a multi-screen foldable device to the future offensive of foldable smartphones from Samsung and Huawei.
Smartphone with three screens LG, how it will be
On this triple-screen smartphone from LG, at the moment, we can only speculate starting with the device that has already been presented in February: the V50 ThinQ. This flagship smartphone from LG has high-level technical characteristics: 5G modem, eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and Adreno 640 GPU, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory expandable up to 2 TB.
The OLED display is 6.4 inches, with a resolution of 3,120×1,440 pixels (537 ppi) and, thanks to the LG DualScreen cover, a second 6.2-inch display can be mounted that completely transforms the use of the device. The second screen offered by the LG cover, in fact, is independent of the first and can be used to enhance multitasking on the smartphone.
In light of all this, it is very likely that the third screen of the future LG device may serve to overcome the limitations arising from the use of the second, such as the inability to use the always on display when the cover is closed. It remains to be seen if, how and how much, LG will be able to reduce the overall weight of a device with three screens: the LG V50 ThinQ, already without the cover with the additional screen, weighs 183 grams.
Foldable smartphone Vs foldable smartphone
While LG is preparing to launch on the market a "foldable" smartphone with three screens, Samsung is now on the launch pad with its "foldable" smartphones. Also at the IFA in Berlin, in fact, Samsung should present the final Galaxy Fold, redesigned and improved after the bad figures made with the test device.
Huawei, however, does not seem yet ready to put on the market the foldable Mate X presented (like the LG V50 ThinQ) during the last MWC in Barcelona. According to the Chinese manufacturer, in fact, this device does not yet fully meet Huawei's quality standards and, as a result, there are many who think that it will not be launched at IFA 2019.
