Otis, Maeve and all the characters of one of the most popular TV series on Netflix are back: in August, the filming of Sex Education 3
The Coronavirus has blocked the filming of many movies and TV series, among the latter stands out Sex Education 3. The series tells the story of Otis Millburn and his classmates grappling with discoveries related to their identity, sexuality and complicated relationships. The second season, released in early 2020, was one of the most beloved titles of the Netflix audience, reaching over 40 million users in the first month of release alone.
That was enough for the platform to confirm the renewal. The filming of the third season was supposed to start in April but was suddenly blocked of the outbreak of the pandemic. According to the latest news, spread by the site Deadline, will resume from August in the UK. To announce it the production company La Eleven, affiliated with Sony Pictures Television. The production still has a month to organize itself in order to respect all the safety protocols.
What will Sex Education 3 be about?
There is no news related to the plot of Sex Education 3, except some statements made by Asa Butterfield, who plays the protagonist Otis. According to the actor in the next episodes more space should be given to the relationship between Otis and Maeve (Emma Mackey). In fact, the first season was mainly focused on their friendship, but with the evolution of the plot, a lot of space was given to the other characters as well. One of the pivotal stories of the second season, for example, was the relationship between Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa) and Adam (Connor Swindells), the former is a homosexual black boy and the latter the white boy who bullies him at school.
The two fall in love but there are many problems, especially related to acceptance and prejudice. In the last episode of Sex Education 2 Adam will manage to accept this love, go against his father to confess to everyone that he is homosexual and in love with Eric. This is just one of the many stories that punctuated the second season of Sex Education, where important social issues related to sexuality and other sensitive social topics, such as abortion, were addressed.
So, Otis and Maeve's relationship somehow took a back seat, but now they could take center stage again, as the actor said in an interview with Digital Spy: "I wish Otis and Maeve's relationship had more space, because they had less space in the season than they did in the first season and I really enjoy working with Emma Mackey (actress who plays Maeve). I think theirs is a great relationship, not just romantically but in everything, they understand each other, and they manage to bring out the best in each other when they're together." This could be a cue for future episodes.
Sex Education 3: When it comes out
The third season of the TV series is set for release in early 2021. If the typical annual deadline for Netflix TV series is met, Sex Education 3 should be available between January and February 2021.
