Snapchat imitates TikTok, Reels and Shorts and introduces the ability to add a soundtrack to your videos before sharing them
Snapchat users are in for a surprise: you will be able to add music to your snaps, a request that has long been raised by users of the app and is finally becoming a reality. The new feature, currently available only for iOS, is called Sounds and allows you to choose from a music catalog composed of emerging talents and established artists.
The new feature, which makes Snapchat look a bit like TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, is therefore a welcome addition to the features already available on the app, used every day by millions of users around the globe. Sounds, however, is not only a tool for adding music but also a powerful tool for music discovery. In fact, once you receive a Snap with music embedded in it, the recipient will be able to learn more about it by swiping up. In a few moments some important information will appear, such as the title of the song and the name of the artist, as well as being able to view the album cover. Last but not least, the possibility to listen to the whole song through the link "Play This Song" that will allow you to connect to your favorite music streaming platform for playback.
Snapchat and Sounds: how it works
How does Sounds work on Snapchat? It's pretty simple and straightforward: users with an iPhone or iPad can add music before recording the video by clicking on the music note icon, located on the right side of the screen, and choose their favorite song. If the video has already been recorded, don't worry: you can add a soundtrack after the recording.
There are many music labels with which Snapchat has made agreements for the inclusion of music within its content. Some of the biggest names include Warner Music Group, Universal Music Publishing Group, BMG Music Publishing Warner Chappell Music, along with Merlin, NMPA and Kobalt.
Snapchat: what's new for the future
The addition of the music theme to Snaps is, however, just one of the new features Snapchat has churned out for its users around the world. Among the next developments of the multimedia application for smartphones and tablets there would be the inclusion of a new feature that will not leave disappointed fans.
It is the ability to add, always to the snaps, music created by users themselves, thus increasing the range of possible customizations. At the moment, this new feature is still in the testing phase and, to be able to use it on your own devices, you'll have to wait a little longer.
