The smartphone with an on-screen camera arrives in Italy: how much it costs

ZTE Axon 30 is one of the few smartphones with an on-screen camera to be sold in Italy: here's availability and prices

ZTE Axon 30 was presented at the end of July, but a little 'because of the global crisis of chips that complicates the manufacturers to find the necessary components for smartphones, a little' for trade policies by ZTE that may favor certain markets, arrives in Italy only now.

Not too bad because while waiting for the Xiaomi Mix 4, ZTE Axon 30 is one of the few smartphones with an under-screen camera to have reached the Belpaese. It was not easy for ZTE to overcome the challenges implied by the new technology, so the development of Axon 30 took several months of intense work. The company had tried in 2020 with Axon 20 to clear customs to the general public the camera under the screen, but the attempt was unsuccessful: too big the compromises to be accepted in terms of quality in selfies, the technology had to be perfected. So we went back to work to get ZTE Axon 30, which should combine the problems of the predecessor to the past.

ZTE Axon 30, what it looks like

Impossible not to start from the display in the description of ZTE Axon 30, certainly the most fascinating component of the smartphone because of the absence of notch or holes. It is a 6.92-inch Full HD+ OLED panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and touch sampling of 360 Hz, and capable of covering 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. In addition to integrating the camera, the display also contains the fingerprint reader.

Underneath the screen is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 870 chip, an optimized and enhanced revision of the Snapdragon 865, the 2020 top of the line: it's a 3.2 GHz max octa core with Adreno 650 GPU, flanked by 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. There's a "triple ice" cooling system that helps keep temperatures under control during the most demanding processes.

The camera hidden under the screen is 16 megapixels with f/2.0 aperture and 2.24 um large pixels, but to offer better results and thus minimize the undeniable disadvantage of less light influx to the sensor ZTE has opted for pixel binning, software technology that "merges" 4 pixels into 1 to get a less resolved photo (4 MP) but brighter.

On the opposite surface is a camera group consisting of four sensors: a 64-megapixel f/1.79 wide-angle lens, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5-megapixel macro sensor, and finally a 2-megapixel depth-of-field sensor, which helps get more punchy portrait photos.

Nourished connectivity compartment that includes, among other things, support for 5G networks, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, dual-band Wi-Fi ac and GPS. From 4,200 mAh the battery of ZTE Axon 30, with support for fast charging with maximum power of 55 watts. The user interface is the MyOS 11 based on Android 11.
