The first Amazon Go store opens in Seattle: on the surface it looks like a normal grocery store, but it is the cutting-edge commercial technology that will make it the most advanced store in the world.There are no cashiers and you pay for your groceries directly through your Amazon account.
This new checkout-free shopping experience offered by Amazon is made possible by many of the technologies already found in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensors and machine learning that learn from experience. Everything converges in the "Just Walk Out Shopping" system that is able to detect when products are taken or put back on the shelves, keeping track of them in the customer's virtual shopping cart. Come funziona Amazon Go
Il funzionamento, a grandi linee, è il seguente. Si entra nel negozio strisciando, come se fosse un badge, lo smartphone su un reader che riconosce il QR code del cliente. Una volta all’interno del supermercato ci si comporta come sempre. Si cammina tra gli scaffali, si prende della merce, poi si cambia idea e la si rimette al suo posto. Anche i resi funzionano allo stesso modo. Finita la spesa, non esistono cassieri o casse automatiche, si esce e basta: i soldi sono prelevati automaticamente dalla propria carta di credito o di debito. Fine… Anzi, è il possibile inizio di una nuova era nel settore dello shopping “tradizionale”.

Dopo una fase di test che ha visto i dipendenti di Amazon utilizzati come cavie, il primo Amazon Go è stato ufficialmente aperto. I test effettuati negli ultimi anni hanno permesso all’azienda di Seattle di migliorare il sistema e di gestire al meglio il riconoscimento delle persone e dei prodotti acquistati. Cosa vende Amazon Go? È un supermercato, quindi saranno presenti generi alimentari pre-confezionati preparati ogni giorno dagli chef all’interno del supermercato, o cucinati al momento in tempo record. Si può fare colazione, pranzo, cena o mangiare uno snack veloce. La selezione di prodotti alimentari spazia dal pane al latte, dai formaggi artigianali alla cioccolata locale. Non mancano, inoltre, marche molto conosciute, oltre a reparti speciali. Those in a hurry can buy one of Amazon's kits - designed by their chefs - to prepare a meal for two at home in about 30 minutes.
Another 2000 stores coming soon
In the Seattle company's plans, if the first Amazon Go bears fruit, another 2000 will be opened around the world. Cashiers, however, need not fear. Amazon Go will not eliminate thousands of jobs, quite simply they will have to re-skill. In fact, there are eight employees working inside the first Amazon Go, many more than the size of the supermarket would lead you to believe. Most are busy making pre-cooked and take-out food. The future is just around the corner: grocery shopping will be a completely different experience.
