Galaxy S10e vs. iPhone Xr: which one to buy

IPhone Xr and Samsung Galaxy S10e are two very similar smartphones: here's a comparison to choose the best

Samsung and Apple are ready to do battle in this 2019. The two companies have approached the top-of-the-line smartphone market with a very similar strategy: making multiple smartphones in the same range to diversify the offer. In September last year, Apple unveiled three new apple phones: the iPhone Xr, the iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Max. Samsung responded with the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+.

These are smartphones that can be compared perfectly. iPhone Xr and Galaxy S10e are the low-cost versions, iPhone XS and Galaxy S10 represent the base model, while iPhone XS Max and Galaxy S10+ are designed for those who want a smartphone with a large screen. The most interesting ones are definitely the iPhone Xr and Galaxy S10e. For the first time, the two companies have made a budget version of their top of the range to try to widen the market segment as much as possible. The two devices share most of the technical features with their "bigger" brothers, but with exceptions. Here's a comparison of the Galaxy S10e and iPhone Xr.

Performance

The Galaxy S10e and iPhone Xr ensure definitely above-average performance. The Galaxy S10e comes with the Exynos 9820 chipset built with an 8-nanometer architecture. In support we find 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage expandable with a microSD.

The iPhone Xr mounts an A12 Bionic processor supported by 3GB of RAM and 64/128/256GB of storage, not expandable.

On both devices we also find a processor dedicated specifically to artificial intelligence that improves the usability of the smartphone and the quality of the images taken.

Screen and design

On this point the Galaxy S10e and the iPhone Xr differ greatly. The first embraces the new design chosen by Samsung for its top of the range with the hole on the screen that allows to decrease the thickness of the bezels. The iPhone Xr, on the other hand, has the same design as the iPhone X presented in 2017: very large notch where the sensors for facial recognition are inserted.

Let's move on to the screen. The Galaxy S10e has a dynamic 5.8-inch AMOLED display with FullHD+ resolution. The edges are not rounded and there are very thin side bezels.

The iPhone Xr, on the other hand, has a 6.1-inch LCD screen with 1792×828 pixel resolution. The applephone also has a screen without curved edges.

Photography compartment

The Galaxy S10e mounts a dual rear camera with 12 Megapixel main sensor and variable aperture from 1.5 to 2.4, and 16 Megapixel wide-angle secondary sensor and f/2.2. 10 Megapixel front camera with a focal aperture of 1.9.

The iPhone Xr has only two cameras: one rear and one front. At the back, there is a 12 Megapixel photo sensor with a 1.8 focal aperture and optical image stabilization. On the front we find a 7 Megapixel lens.

Unlocking mode

Both the Galaxy S10e and the iPhone Xr integrate unlocking via face recognition.

Batterie e ricarica

  • iPhone Xr 64GB: 889 euro
  • iPhone Xr 128GB: 949 euro
  • iPhone Xr 256GB: 1059 euro
