How to recover your Wi-Fi password

Sometimes it can happen to forget the password of our home Wi-Fi Network, here is a series of "tricks" to recover the credentials with a few clicks

We often and willingly forget the password of the connection Wi-Fi at home. This is because after logging in for the first time on computers and smartphones, the devices store the access key and we don't need to re-enter it every time. But what if we can't recover the Wi-Fi password?

Unfortunately, recovering the security key used by our router is quite simple. And there are also several ways to do it. For example, if you have a laptop, it only takes a few clicks. It is more difficult to do the same operation on phones, both Android and iPhone. If we have a PC with a Windows operating system, we have to go to the Wireless Networks list in the Control Panel. You can do this quickly by pressing the Windows key (the button with the window logo) + R, and typing ncpa.cpl in the search box that appears. To recover the password we need to right-click on the name of the saved Wi-Fi network.

Recovery password from Windows PC

Once we have right-clicked on the Wi-Fi network we are interested in from the pop-up menu we need to click on the Status item. At this point we will enter the page dedicated to the status of the connection and here we must click on Properties. In the page that opens click on Security and reach the section dedicated to the password of the network. Here we just have to select Show characters to see the access key of the home Wi-Fi. This technique only works if the PC is connected to the Network.

Recovery password on Mac

If we have a Mac we have to go to the Keychain Access function. To get there just press the Command key plus the space bar and type "Keychain Access" in the search box. Once in the section we look for the Password entry and click on it. Here we will see a list of the Networks currently in use and used in the past. We click on the Network we are interested in with the right mouse button and from the popup menu we select the option Copy password. To view this information we need to enter the username and password of the Mac.

Recovery password from the router

If, like most people, we have never changed the password of the router it will be very easy to recover it. In fact, many modern routers have the network access security key printed on the back. Just turn the modem over to find it. If, however, the password is no longer visible or if the manufacturers have not printed it, we can always connect the router to a PC via an Ethernet cable and accessing the management page of the modem we will easily find the access credentials. If we can not access the page of the router because we do not remember the administration password we can always reset the device to factory data. To do this, just press the reset button on the back of the router for a few seconds.
