PlayStation 5: the countdown begins

PlayStation 5, everything ready for the September 16 launch: the countdown begins to know the release date and price

The countdown to the launch of the PlayStation 5 will begin soon. The Sony console will be officially presented on September 16 at 10 p.m. Italian time. An opportunity to know the release date of the PS5 and especially the price, after Microsoft has already announced the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles.

To announce the presentation that will take place in online streaming was the same PlayStation on its official blog. An event of about 40 minutes that will focus on the games coming with PS5, updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and development partners. Along with the games, Sony will almost certainly unveil the release date of the two models of its next-gen console, standard with Blu-ray player and Digital edition without optical support, set by the end of 2020. A move that follows Microsoft's, whose official console launch date is set for next November 10.

PS5, countdown started: streaming event

Sony announced the streaming event for September 16 at 10 p.m. Italian time on the official PlayStation blog, writing, "Before PlayStation 5 launches at the end of the year, we wanted to offer you the chance to take another look at some of the great games coming with PS5 (and beyond!)." The post continues: "Our upcoming digital presentation will last approximately 40 minutes and will include updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our top-notch development partners."

Although the post makes no mention of announcing the PS5's official release date and pricing for both the Standard version of the console and the Digital Edition, it's very likely that it will be discussed.  The other surprises in store from Sony, in fact, may concern precisely these two highly anticipated pieces of information.

PS5, launch date and price rumors

At the moment, we only have rumors about the launch date and price of PlayStation 5. Considering that Microsoft's Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will be released on November 10 for $499 and $299 respectively, it is conceivable that Sony will also launch its consoles around that date and with competitive prices.

For this reason, it seems likely that the standard PlayStation 5 with Blu-ray optical drive could cost $499. The PS5 Digital Edition is a different story, as rumors have it that it will cost $399.

Since the cheap Xbox rival costs 100 euros less, Sony might decide to adjust and lower the price to make its next-gen low-cost console competitive. To find out more, all we have to do is wait for the event on the 16th
