The plot of Good Omens

In fact, at the center of the plot of the TV series are an angel and a demon, who team up with each other to save humanity from an apocalypse and, before that, to save themselves and the pleasures they experience on earth.
Specifically at the center of the story are the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley. These two biblical characters couldn't be more different: they come from opposite universes and have lived apart among humans on earth for a very long time. Despite these differences, they also have many commonalities, such as adopting human habits, earthly pleasures, and modern lifestyles.
In this context, both Aziraphale and Crowley do not want humanity to be destroyed. The goal of both is to save it so that they can continue to enjoy the vices and pleasures it offers. To do so, they come to the agreement to cooperate and join forces, in order to prevent the end of the world due to the Antichrist.

Good Omens personaggi
I due personaggi di Good Omens sono senza dubbio l’angelo e il demone, che utilizzano l’ironia inglese per affrontare le sventure e le avventure della ricerca dell’Anticristo. I due hanno caratteristiche diverse e in molti aspetti si ritrovano opposti tra loro.
- Aziraphel è l’angelo che viene delegato sulla Terra, in quanto regalò ad Adamo ed Eva una spada di fuoco per scaldarsi. In Good Omens l’angelo sulla terra ama i libri, il buon cibo ed è caratterizzato da un carattere meticoloso e nervoso. Nonostante questo, Azraphel è un personaggio buono, che ama collezionare libri e coltiva una profonda fedeltà al Paradiso.
- Crowley è invece il demone dell’inferno e la sua storia è accompagnata da quella di Lucifero. Infatti il demone non è che un angelo caduto durante la rivolta contro Dio, una scelta che lui rimpiange consapevole di aver ascoltato le persone sbagliate. L’aspetto esteriore di questo personaggio può sembrare carismatico, arrogante e provocante, ma in realtà nasconde delle profonde insicurezze. La sua camminata ricorda quella di un serpente, infatti nel libro viene descritto come sia stato lui il serpente che induce in tentazione Adamo ed Eva con la mela dell’albero del bene e del male.
- L’Anticristo o Adam Young è il figlio di Satana, che viene inviato sulla terra con uno specifico obiettivo: scatenare l’apocalisse e distruggere l’essere umano. Crowley ha invece il compito di scambiarlo con il figlio dell’ambasciatore americano, ma per errore lo consegnerà agli Young, una coppia inglese molto comune. Tra le caratteristiche di questo personaggio ci sono la bellezza, il fascino, il carisma e l’immaginazione.
- Tra gli altri personaggi di Good Omens c’è l’Arcangelo Gabriele, rappresentato come il capo delle forze del Paradiso. Nella serie, a differenza del libro, è il personaggio che si occupa di controllare il lavoro di Azraphel, mentre nel libro viene citato solo poche volte e in una sola circostanza.Un altro personaggio di rilevanza è Anatema Device, la nipote dell’omonima strega e occultista. Anche la ragazza, destinata a salvare il mondo secondo la sua antenata, impara già da piccola le profezie della nonna e le studia con attenzione. Anatema ha un carattere determinato e deciso, è attraente e ha come obiettivo trovare l’Anticristo e salvare il pianeta utilizzando l’astuzia più che i suoi incantesimi.

Due to the success of the TV series directed by Douglas Mackinnon and written by Gaiman, the production has been renewed and a second season is planned for release in 2022 (confirmed on June 29, 2021).

Series based on Good Omens the book
The miniseries is based on the book Good Omens, published in 1990 and written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The novel is humorous and apocalyptic and in Italian the title is "Buona Apocalisse a tutti!". The book is translated by Arnoldo Mondadori Editore and has been available on the market since 2007.
The adaptation of the book Good Omens was planned to be filmed in 2002. In fact the film was to be directed by Terry Gilliam but a way to satisfy the authors and conclude the project could not be found. Since then Gaiman's attempts to find new screenwriters and directors were numerous but unsuccessful.
One of the authors, Pratchett, died in 2015 and initially Gaiman refused to adapt the novel, shelving the idea. Following the receipt of a letter from his late colleague, where he asked his friend to continue with the project, Gaiman decided to try again and considered Amazon's proposal to create a miniseries, all in collaboration with BBC English.
