Capcom and Netflix announce the arrival of a new animated TV series based on the famous video game saga. Here are the details
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will become a TV series, and not a movie as speculated. The new title was born from the collaboration between Capcom, the famous Japanese company that developed the video game, and Netflix. The news has been announced during the Tokyo Game Show 2020.
In the last few hours has also been published a short trailer, but it does not show particular details but only the two main characters. Resident Evil is one of the most famous video games of the last thirty years, as well as one of the first titles for PlayStation. It was launched in 1996 by Capcom and from that moment on it conquered the hearts of many gamers. It was the Japanese company that first called this type of videogames "survival horror". The genre in the following years has depopulated and inspired other video games, but also movies and TV series. Not to mention that there are many titles inspired by the video game, one of these is the 2002 film of the same name directed by Paul W. Anderson. But now, the world of bloodthirsty mutants is ready to land on the streaming platform.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness
The news of the new animated series linked to the historic survival horror saga has aroused the enthusiasm of a large audience. In addition to the announcement, a one-minute trailer was also released that shows some details about the show in CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) an application used in the field of 3D computer graphics and also widespread to create digital special effects in many movies, commercials and simulation video games.
In the trailer you can see a scene that concerns the two protagonists Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, who come directly from Resident Evil 2. Claire has a look reminiscent of the video game, while Leon has similar features to those of the film products. Another detail that jumps to the eye is represented by the cold and dark colors, typical of the saga's setting: this detail winks at the most loyal fans. The protagonists seem to move within an abandoned house, a school or a station. For the moment, however, there is no further information on the plot of the TV series.
When is the series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness
The release date is not yet clear, but at the end of the trailer ticks the words "only on Netflix coming 2021". So there are not many doubts, we will be able to see Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness in 2021.
The series is therefore added to the large group of news waiting on the platform for next year. In fact, after the difficulties related to Covid-19, the company is intent on making up for it with many titles that have been postponed so far, including Stranger Things, Lucifer and The Paper House.
For the moment, very little is known about the project, which seems to be related to video game storytelling, rather than live action TV series. One must then take into account that the announcement seems to have come almost by mistake: Netflix Portugal has in fact published the news on Twitter to remove it a few minutes later, as it happened for the trailer on Youtube. Was it really a mistake or is it a ploy to increase the curiosity of fans? We just have to wait to find out more. In the meantime, however, has already been published the new schedule with all the movies and TV series coming in October 2020.
