A Samsung engineer announced that foldable smartphones will have to wait until early 2019. Production will begin in March 2018
The Galaxy X will arrive on the market in early 2019. The confirmation comes directly from Samsung, which announced it during CES 2018 (also confirming the presentation of the Samsung Galaxy S9 for the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona).
Some rumors had indicated the end of 2017 as a likely date for the launch of the new device. The news also found confirmation in the alleged event organized by Samsung during last year's Mobile World Congress where the Korean company would invite some international investors to show off the Galaxy X's features. But Samsung has decided to postpone the release of the foldable smartphone to 2019 in order to better develop the features and not repeat past mistakes. For the phone industry this would be a real revolution, with the possibility of completely changing the way we interact with devices.
Features Galaxy X
The first rumors about how the Galaxy X will be (the name actually has not yet been confirmed by Samsung) are also starting to emerge. The smartphone should have a 7.3-inch foldable OLED screen that should open and close like a book. This way the user can use it as both a smartphone and a tablet (the 7.3-inch display brings it much closer to this device). As for the technical specifications, however, nothing is known yet. But it is very likely that the foldable smartphone will be a top-of-the-line one and will mount the best hardware components available on the market.
When will the Galaxy X come out
According to some South Korean sources, Samsung will start the production of the foldable displays in early March 2018, and then assemble the phone in November of the same year. Following this schedule, the Galaxy X is expected to hit the market in early 2019.
The work of other companies
Samsung isn't the only company working on a screen that folds. LG, Nokia and Microsoft are also interested in the field. And the usual insiders also suggest the name of Apple: the Cupertino company would be ready to launch a foldable device in the coming years.
