Sony removes Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store: refunds to start

Cyberpunk 2077 has too many bugs and doesn't run on PS4: Sony takes a drastic stance and removes it from PlayStation Store.

Bad blow for Cyberpunk 2077: Sony has removed CD Projekt's recent videogame from the official store due to some serious bugs in the code. After a long wait, delays in the release and an extremely substantial update a few days after its debut, the Japanese giant has been forced to put a stop to it and refund its users.

The brand new video game of CD Projekt Red, the Polish production company that made the headlines thanks to The Witcher 3, another title of huge success among the public and experts in the field, debuted only last December 10. Yet, even the hype created around the story of the protagonist V. has managed to get the better of the poor performance from the technical point of view, despite the series of patches released in recent days. For this reason Sony has chosen to make a clear move, although unusual, against the game in order to stop the series of problems related to the release and remained unresolved despite continuous attempts, unfortunately, without any result.

Cyberpunk 2077, what happened and how to ask for a refund

Because of the constant bugs found by users Sony has decided to release on its official blog a post announcing the removal of the title from PlayStation Store until further notice. In addition, for players who have made the purchase through the virtual store, it will be possible to make a refund request.

To do so, users can access their personal area and start the procedure that will be completed following verification by the store.

Cyberpunk 2077, confirmation from CD Projekt

In consultation with Sony, CD Projekt has released a statement confirming its decision to remove the title from stores as well as its commitment to bring the title back to virtual stores as soon as possible, once the current issues have been resolved. All copies, digital or physical, will continue to receive support and updates in order to be able to solve the bugs present.

From the point of view of the receipts, the blow suffered by the Polish production company has not been slow to be felt. The market represented by Sony, according to analyst Kacper Kopron and later reported by Bloomberg, is in fact equal to ⅔ of the total dedicated to consoles. The block of sales, which took place only a few hours ago, could already be quantified in a loss between 30 and 40% of earnings expected in the first months of release, those who usually see more revenue given the novelty on the market.

Cyberpunk 2077, history of a disaster announced?

Many delays, a release postponed several times during 2020 and a working climate by the development team made of long shifts for six days a week in order to reach the goal in time: this is the chronicle of the last months that preceded the debut of Cyberpunk 2077 on the market, going to break all the ideals of which the manufacturer had done boast in the past.

This was confirmed by CD Projekt's Senior Game Designer Andrzej Zawadzki in a tweet published last October. Certainly, these rhythms of work have not helped the final stages of the realization, a result that was then confirmed by the choice imposed by Sony, as a last resort pending a final patch.
