Una nuova serie TV firmata da Showtime è in arrivo e racconterà le vicende di Travis Kalanick, ex ceo e fondatore della startup Uber. His role will be played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whose latest commitments include the films Snowden and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
The world of cinema is increasingly interested in the characters of tech companies and Showtime has decided to launch a new television series that will be part of an anthology project. Each series will be about a controversial tech corporation character and this time it's Kalanick's turn. The series is based on the book Super Pumped: The Battle For Uber by Mike Isaac and has been entrusted to creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien and by Beth Schacter, who will delve into the life of the former ceo who was forced to leave Uber in 2017 over allegations of sexual harassment and creating a toxic work environment.
Super Pumped: what the TV series will be about
Super Pumped will talk about Kalanick's life, starting from the gavetta in Silicon Valley to the founding in 2009 of Uber together with Garrett Camp. A life lived through ups and downs, with the startup becoming a benchmark for private car rental with driver. Despite the many successes, in 2017 Kalanick was forced to leave the growing company. The allegations against him were very serious: sexual harassment and behaviors that had made the business climate unlivable. A downward parabola that led the former Uber ceo to become Donald Trump's economic adviser.
The new Showtime series will be edited by Koppelman and Levien, former creators of Billions, and Schacter, who worked on Quantico and Soundtrack. Super Pumped will be part of a new anthology series, where each season will be dedicated to a character whose work has shaken the world of economics, bringing real changes in society, just like it was for Uber.
Super Pumped: who is the leading actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Joseph Gordon-Levitt will not only play the role of Kalanick, but will also be a producer of the new series about the former CEO of Uber. The actor will thus star in the mini-series, a challenging new role after the last two that saw him take on the role of Edward Snowden in the 2020 film of the same name, and one of the anti-Vietnam War activists accused of conspiring to incite a riot during a demonstration in the film The Trial of the Chicago 7.
Now Gordon-Levitt has begun filming the miniseries and Amy Israel, vice president of Showtime productions, said, "He is an incredibly intelligent and charismatic actor with a charm from unexpected angles. We are beyond excited to see what he will bring to the role of Travis Kalanick, a super-brilliant and controversial ceo whose ambition and reckless management threatened the very company he helped build."
No word on a release date, but we'll definitely have to wait until 2022 to see the TV series.
