The fight of the music majors against computer piracy continues. This time to suffer the wrath of the record companies is the German website youtube-mp3.org that allows to download the songs on the platform dedicated to streaming videos.

Universal, Warner and Sony have denounced the website in front of the court of Los Angeles, accusing it of promoting piracy. In fact, according to the reconstruction of the music majors, users use the German portal to illegally download songs and then listen to them on their devices, without having purchased the album or having subscribed to a music streaming service. Ogni mese circa sessanta milioni di utenti utilizzano youtube-mp3.org e per questo motivo le case discografiche hanno chiesto un risarcimento di 150.000 dollari per ogni atto di pirateria informatica.

A stretto giro di posta è arrivato il commento di YouTube che ha confermato la propria estraneità con il sito web tedesco e ha sottolineato il lavoro portato avanti dall’azienda nel bloccare qualsiasi tentativo di download illegale di musica. Anche l’associazione che raccoglie tutte le case discografiche britanniche ha fatto sentire la propria voce, esprimendo la propria preoccupazione per il futuro del mercato: sempre più siti web cercano di ricavare denaro illegalmente strappandolo ad artisti ed etichette. La guerra è appena iniziata, vedremo nei prossimi mesi come proseguirà.
