TV series to watch to understand how American elections work

There are three TV series to watch to understand how U.S. presidential elections work: here are which ones

We will also remember 2020 as the year of the election of the new President of the United States. On November 3, Americans were called to the polls to elect the politician who will lead them for the next four years.

The choice is between two candidates: Donald Trump, outgoing president and representative of the Republicans and the challenger Joe Biden, of the Democratic Party. The confrontation between the two has been heated in the preceding months, which saw them as protagonists of intense electoral campaigns. American politics is articulated and in many ways complex, but fortunately there are many TV series that allow us to better understand its characteristics and above all the dynamics that characterize the elections and life inside the White House. Some series have treated the theme with irony, others have been prophetic, some have been inspired by real events: in short, the streaming platforms give us really many titles to better understand the elections of the President of the USA. Here's which ones to watch.

Defy the President - The Comedy Rule on NOW TV

The miniseries Challenge the President - The Comedy Rule consists of two parts lasting about four hours.

It is based on the book by James Comey, former head of the FBI and recounts the time when he found himself investigating the Hilary Clinton email scandal and the controversial relationship between Trump and Russia.

In particular, some episodes focus on the figure of Donald Trump and Russia's alleged interference with the American elections, but also on the relationship between Comey and the President, played by Jeff Daniels and Brendan Gleeson, respectively. The events date back to 2013 and end in 2017.

This is a mini-series to watch to learn about a historical cross-section of the Trump presidency, but also about his connection with the FBI.

Defying the President - The Comedy Rule is available on NOW TV and Sky Atlantic.

West Wing on Amazon Prime Video

The second TV series focused on American politics is West Wing. The show is created by Aaron Sorkin (The Newsroom) and chronicles daily life inside the White House, where the President of the USA is played by Martin Sheen. Surrounded by family and co-workers, he strives every day to carry out good, ethical and sensible government.

Naturally, there is no shortage of challenges. It's a way to better understand how the life of the President of the U.S. unfolds and how his actions can have a huge impact on the entire world.

West Wing is available on Amazon Prime Video.

The Politician on Netflix

The third series to watch is definitely lighter and more humorous than the previous ones, but the main characters are still them: the climb to success and the American elections.

The plot of The Politician centers on the events of Payton Hobart (played by Ben Platt), a boy who dreams of becoming the future president of the United States of America.

The Politician is available on Netflix.
