The TV series is based on the famous international best-seller. It will be available in Italy starting in May 2021. Here are details on plot, cast and release.
The international best-seller "We, the boys from the Berlin Zoo" becomes a TV series. This was announced by Amazon, which will collaborate on the production, along with Constantin Television. It will consist of eight episodes and will focus on the story of "Christiane F." and her infamous group at the Bahnhof Zoo, an iconic subway station in Berlin.
We, the Berlin Zoo Boys is the famous novel written in 1978 by journalists K. Hermann and H. Rieck and the protagonist Christiane Vera Felscherinow. It is an autobiographical story, where the protagonist faces her life: from her difficult childhood with a violent father, to the separation of her parents, up to drug addiction and prostitution. The 1981 cult film of the same name directed by Uli Edel was later based on the novel. The Amazon series will be a reinterpretation of the book but in a modern key. It will be a raw and true story, centered on the lives of six teenagers. The technology giant has also announced the cast and release date of the new TV series in Italy.
TV series We, the boys from the Berlin Zoo: the plot
The TV series tells the story of six teenagers committed to conquer their freedom, leaving behind their family, teachers and all those who want to limit them. The group consists of the main character Christiane, Stella, Babsi, Benno, Axel and Michi. They will live without limits and rules, with the sole purpose of fulfilling their dreams and giving in to temptations. However, they will understand that ecstasy can destroy their friendship and put their lives at risk.
Georgia Brown, Head of European Originals, Amazon Studios, commented on the Project:
"Published in more than 30 countries and translated into more than 20 languages, We, the Berlin Zoo Boys is a timeless intellectual property that has many fans around the world. In reinterpreting this provocative story, Constantin Television, Philip Kadelbach and Annette Hess have worked hard to make it relevant to a contemporary audience while maintaining the original essence of the book and its characters. I'm delighted that we can bring this story to Prime customers in many countries around the world."
The plot of the book, which was later repurposed into the famous feature film, was about the true story of Christiane F. a girl who told her memoirs and became world famous. She had turned to drugs in the 1970s becoming addicted to heroin.
