Gone is the much criticized Exynos 990 produced in house, welcome Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 also on the 4G version, but not in all countries.
Change of chip for Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. Nearly a year after its official release, the lowest priced smartphone in the S20 series changes one of the key elements housed inside the body, switching from a component produced by the Korean company to an external element but with superior potential, already known and recognized by the same manufacturer.
It was one of the most popular devices among those belonging to the top line of Samsung and, almost a year later, returns to make talk about itself thanks to a single but crucial change to its technical sector. Giving the news was the website WinFuture, which stressed the importance of this change in the structure of the S20 range "Fan Edition" phone. Waiting for the arrival of its new edition for the current year, Galaxy S20 FE 4G thus opens the doors to a new processor, effectively aligning with what has already been implemented in the version with 5G connectivity of the same model.
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, what will replace the old chip?
According to what WinFuture stated, the 4G version of the Galaxy S20 FE smartphone could switch from the Exynos 990 processor to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865, just like the 5G version. This would be a step forward for this particular variant on the S20 theme that, currently, already appears in the catalog with the new chip and the SM-G780G identification code on Samsung's site dedicated to the market of Scandinavian countries.
This is, in any case, the only substantial change to the model of the Korean manufacturer, since all other technical specifications remain unchanged from the previous edition. This includes the screen, a 6.5-inch FHD+ Amoled display, a combination of 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, rear camera with triple 12MP module for each sensor and, last but not least, IP68 rating (here is the data sheet of the S20 FE model).
Samsung, Exynos versus Snapdragon?
Samsung's choice to cast aside the proprietary Exynos 990 processor in favor of the Snapdragon 865 does not, in any case, come completely unexpected.
The decision to put aside the proprietary Exynos 990 processor in favor of the Snapdragon 865 doesn't come as a complete surprise. In fact, since its release, the chip had presented some rather obvious flaws, such as overheating problems that can negatively affect the performance of the device, reducing its capabilities.
Replacing it with the SoC produced by Qualcomm could therefore represent a tacit admission of guilt by the company that, so far, has never explicitly admitted the failures of its most discussed chip.
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, when it arrives on the market
At the moment, Samsung has not released any information on the next steps regarding a possible market replacement of devices equipped with the Exynos 990 processor, nor whether the decision may affect exclusively certain regions where the device is currently on sale.
For sure, the giant is already working on the new Galaxy S21 FE that will be, to all intents and purposes, the successor of the previous model and that, barring surprises, according to Samsung's roadmap leaked in recent weeks should be presented during the next month of AugustĀ (here all the latest news on this model).
