Samsung presents at IFA 2018 three new wearables for sports and announces a new collaboration with Speedo to monitor your workout in the pool
Done with the time of smartphones, Samsung is turning to wearables. And the South Korean company does so with three new devices dedicated to the world of sports and fitness: these are the Gear Sport smartwatch, the Gear Fit 2 smart band and the Gear IconX 2018 wireless earbuds.
These are three top of the range devices that are integrated into the already full-bodied Gear family. The three wearables have innovative features and functionality especially dedicated to those who keep fit and work out every day. While the Gear Fit 2 Pro is a classic fitness tracker with smart features and a small AMOLED screen to keep tabs on your vitals, the Gear Sport is a true smartwatch with Tizen mobile operating system and the ability to download music thanks to integration with Spotify. The Gear IconX 2018 headphones are an update of the earbuds presented last year and offer 4GB of storage to listen to music without having to use the smartphone.
Features Gear Sport
Smartwatch for fitness, the Gear Sport has a 1.2-inch AMOLED screen. Quite small size so as not to annoy the user during physical activity. On the wearable we find the Tizen operating system, supported by a 1GHz dual-core chipset, 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. The storage space can be used to upload music directly to the smartwatch, without having to take your smartphone with you. Also, thanks to the integration with Spotify, you will be able to download songs offline directly from the streaming music platform. The Gear Sport also features Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth (to connect headphones), NFC chip and GPS. The battery is 300mAh.
The smartwatch is waterproof and will also be able to be used in the pool to monitor your workouts. Samsung has partnered with Speedo to give its users the ability to use the Speedo On platform to monitor their workouts. In addition to these special features, the Gear Sport has the normal features of a smartwatch dedicated to fitness: you will be able to monitor your physical activity, number of steps, distance traveled and heart rate. For the price you'll have to wait for October, when it will be launched on the market.
Features Gear Fit 2 Pro
For those who don't want a smartwatch, there is the Gear Fit 2 Pro, a fitness tracker with a 1.5-inch curved AMOLED display. Compared to classic fitness trackers, Samsung's wearable is super accessorized and features the same processor as the smartwatch, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Water-resistant and dustproof, the Gear Fit 2 Pro can also be used in the pool. It can be used in conjunction with the Speedo On platform and supports playback of songs downloaded from Spotify. It is compatible with iOS and Android and can be set to show smartphone notifications directly on the smart band's screen. The battery is 200mAh. It will be available from late September at a price of 299 euros.
Gear IconX 2018 Features
The latest wearable is an update of the wireless headphones launched by Samsung last year. In the 2018 version, the Korean company has made improvements that mainly concern fast charging (with 10 minutes you can use the earbuds for an hour) and sound quality. The Gear IconX 2018 headphones are very light (8 grams) and have a 4GB storage space inside that allows you to save your favorite songs. The autonomy with a full charge is 7 hours. The earbuds will hit the market in October, but the price has not yet been made official.
