Honor Play 5 official: three medium different from the usual

Three Honor Play 5 models to attack the low-medium range: after the farewell to Huawei Honor starts again to attack the international smartphone market.

While waiting to see if Honor, recently exited from the Huawei group, will return to sell its new products on European soil, we can meanwhile discover the news presented by the company in China with the hope that Europe and Honor will soon rhyme again, if only because the competition stimulates all manufacturers to do better.

Honor has made official the Play 5 family, consisting of three smartphones: Honor Play 5G, Honor Play 5T and finally Honor Play 5T Life, which in fact was already official at the end of April. The design of the three, net of different colors and a few details, is almost identical and is not remembered for originality. The front surface is characterized by a teardrop-shaped notch and a display that occupies almost the entire area available: the bezels around are quite optimized, but as is also the case on much of the competition the lower one is perceptibly wider than the others. Features and pricing of Honor Play 5 5G

Honor Play 5 5G has a large 6.53-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) and HDR 10 support. Underneath operates a MediaTek Dimensity 800U octa core chip with 2.4 GHz maximum frequency flanked by 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal memory.

The camera for selfies is 16 megapixels, while the rear houses the LED flash and four sensors: the main 64-megapixel, the ultra wide-angle 8-megapixel and finally two sensors of 2 megapixels each for macro and depth of field detection.

On the connectivity side there's support for 5G SA/NSA, Bluetooth 5.1 Low Energy, Wi-Fi b/g/n, USB-C, GPS, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack input while the fingerprint reader is placed under the display. The user interface is the Magic UI 4.0 based on Android 10.

A battery capacity far from the references - 3,800 mAh - is counterbalanced by the fast charging from 66 watts of maximum power, which allows you to recover energy in the blink of an eye.

Three colors provided: Titanium Silver, Midnight Black and Icelandic Fantasy. Dimensions of 161.6 x 74.8 × 7.96 mm, while the weight is 179 grams. Finally, the prices: we start from about 260 euros at current exchange rates for the variant with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage to end on about 290 euros for the 8+256 GB.

No 5G connectivity for Honor Play 5T that nevertheless is the cheapest product of the three. The 6.51 display is an IPS LCD with HD+ resolution (1,600 x 720 pixels), while underneath operates a 1.8 GHz max power Unisoc T610 Octa Core chip with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

Front-facing 5-megapixel camera, behind there are instead three: the main 13 MP, the ultra wide-angle 5 MP and finally a 2 MP for depth. The fingerprint reader is on the back while connectivity sees Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n, USB-C, GPS, 3.5 mm audio jack input. The user interface is the Magic UI 4.0 based on Android 10.

The battery is 5,000 mAh with fast charging at 22.5 watts. Dimensions and weight: 163.9 x 75.79 x 8.95 mm and 198 grams. Three colors offered: Titanium Silver, Aurora Blue, Midnight Black. Price, at current exchange rates, very low: just over 150 euros to take one home.

The technical data sheet of Honor Play 5T Life follows in many respects that of Honor Play 5T.

The differences relate to a larger 6.6-inch display, the presence of a 2-megapixel macro camera that raises the total number of sensors to four, the different SoC, which in this case is a Mediatek Helio P35 2.3 GHz and the memory, which goes to 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage expandable with microSD.

Finally the dimensions, which go to 165.2 x 76 x 9.2 mm for 191 grams of weight, and the colors: Magic Night Black, Aurora Blue. Price set at the equivalent of 165 euros.
