WhatsApp offers its users the ability to share content for 24 hours with their contacts and interact: here's what status is, how to update it, delete it or reply
A text, photo, video or even GIF that are shared for just 24 hours with their contacts and then disappear. These are status updates from WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Mark Zuckerberg, that echo Instagram's Stories.
Users enjoy creating status updates that are meant to disappear after a day, but allow you to have direct interaction with your contacts. Not only can WhatsApp status updates be created, but you can also use the Reply feature to comment on your contact's status.
To create an update with photos or videos, or create a GIF, you will instead need to tap on the Camera icon in the bottom right corner, or My Status.
Once the content to share has been created, tap on the arrow symbol in the green circle of Send and the status will be shared.
How to delete WhatsApp status
To delete WhatsApp status once it is published, you need to open the app, tap on Status and then My Status. It will open a screen with the list of status updates posted by the user.
For those with an Android device, you have to tap its three dots next to the status to be deleted, then once again open the More menu with the three vertical dots and from the drop-down menu choose Delete and confirm the operation.
For those with an iPhone, there are two other methods besides the one described for Android. The user can simply swipe left to the status update to be deleted, then tap Delete and confirm.
To delete multiple status updates from an iPhone at once, tap Edit, select the updates to be deleted and then tap Delete and confirm the deletion.
