Prime Video announces: you will be able to share scenes from movies

Prime Video announces important news for movie, show and TV series fans: in the US, with the iOS app, you can share 30-second clips from Amazon original productions

If there's one place where movies and TV series are constantly talked about, and where this big slice of modern pop culture always finds space, that place is social networks. But, paradoxically, social is also the place where it's forbidden to post content from the big productions of Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Netflix & Co.

The reason is always the same: copyright infringement. But something is about to change, as Amazon Prime Video has announced a very interesting news: in the United States you can now share with your smartphone 30-second clips taken from the content in the catalog of the streaming giant. But with more than one limitation, a sign that this is an initial experiment and that, in the future, something may change.

Prime Video on social: how it works

The news concerns only American users, and only those with Apple smartphones and tablets: the ability to share short videos from Prime Video content is in fact currently exclusive to the Prime Video app for iOS.

Furthermore, it should also be pointed out that it is possible to share videos taken exclusively from specific Prime Video exclusive productions, i.e. the famous Amazon Originals, for which Amazon holds the copyright.

Having said that, and specified the limits, when it is possible to share part of the content in the Amazon Prime Video app for iOS the "Share a clip" option appears in the bottom right corner. After choosing it, the user is faced with a very basic timeline that shows the 30 seconds automatically selected by the app.

At this point, the user can edit the beginning and end of the scene, always within the 30-second limit, and finally share the generated video on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, iMessage, Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp.

Prime Video on social: what changes

The possibility to share 30-second clips of Amazon Originals content is clearly a first experiment, which could prove to be a double-edged sword.

On the one hand, in fact, sharing the most beautiful or funny scenes of a movie or an episode greatly increases the chances that people will talk about that content.

On the other hand, however, it also exponentially increases the risk of spoilers, which is why the function is currently available only for a very limited number of contents: The Boys (first season), The Wilds, Invincible and Fairfax.
