Poste Italiane is ready to replace traditional mailboxes with digital ones. It starts from Milan, for a smart innovation that will involve the whole of Italy.
Innovation and tradition meet in the new initiative of Poste Italiane. After more than 60 years of honorable service, the mailboxes that characterize cities and towns throughout Italy will begin to change their face, reinventing themselves in "smart" boxes.
The new digital mailboxes will replace those installed in 1961 throughout the Boot, starting from Milan. In the capital of Lombardy, the first ones have already appeared in the city center, between Via Cordusio, Piazza Duomo and Via Orefici, with citizens who can interface with features never seen before, but without giving up the iconic bright red color that has always characterized them. In addition to posting mail, with the new smart boxes we will be able to monitor various useful information, such as the main environmental data - from temperature to humidity, passing through fine dust - and they allow Poste Italiane to convey information to citizens on the municipality of reference. All this thanks to an "e-ink" screen, which closely resembles those found on e-readers. The sensors provided also detect the presence of correspondence inside, with consequent advantages in the collection phase and in terms of environmental impact.
Today, there are about 40,000 mailboxes in Italy, of which about 800 in Milan. L’iniziativa è dunque coerente con tutti i principi ESG sull’ambiente, il sociale e il governo di impresa, rispettati dalle aziende socialmente responsabili, che contribuiscono allo sviluppo sostenibile del Bel Paese.
Come comunicato dai vertici di Poste Italiane ad Ansa, nelle prossime settimane saranno installate nuove cassette digitali anche in Piazza Duca D’Aosta, 1, Via Alberico Albricci, 8, Via Alfredo Cappellini, 19, Via dell’Orso 9, Foro Bonaparte, 71, Via Tonale, 10, e Piazza Argentina, 4. L’obiettivo, in questa prima fase sperimentale, è di arrivare ad un totale di 46 cassette nella città di Milano. Nuove installazioni interesseranno anche i Comuni di Torino, Roma e Napoli, per 100 nuove cassette che faranno da apripista alle altre 12.000 in dirittura d’arrivo su tutto il territorio italiano entro la fine del 2022, per adeguarsi alle esigenze dei nostri tempi.

Intanto, in linea con la sua missione sociale, continua anche in tempi di pandemia l’impegno di Poste Italiane nella sostituzione e manutenzione delle cassette postali allo scopo di riqualificare lo spazio urbano e installare cassette di ultima generazione anche nei piccoli Comuni. Sprovviste di schermo, le cassette nei Comuni sotto i 5.000 abitanti hanno le stesse identiche funzionalità di quelle “smart”. I dati rilevati sono consultabili a questo indirizzo, semplicemente inserendo il nome del Comune di riferimento.
