The last episode of the second season left the audience with bated breath: when will the new episodes of The Umbrella Academy arrive?
Although the second season of The Umbrella Academy was released a few weeks ago on Netflix, the audience is looking forward to enjoy the new episodes, also because it ended with a real cliffhanger that leaves many questions unanswered.
The last episode ended with the Hargreeves being catapulted into 2019 and discovering, not only that Mr. Hargreeves and Ben are alive, but that the Umbrella Academy has been replaced by the Sparrow Academy. In addition, in the last scenes viewers noticed a huge green cube floating in the air and this appearance gave rise to numerous interpretations. The series inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Gerard Way therefore still has a lot to tell. Of course, there is no official news from the production, but there is no shortage of anticipations and we can already speculate a possible plot, as well as the names of the actors we will see on screen.
The Umbrella Academy 3: what will it be about?
The third season has not yet been made official by Netflix. Despite that, showrunner Steve Blackman has revealed some previews of the plot: "It's going to take some elements from the graphic novel but we're also going to go in a different direction, like we always do. But the great thing is that Gerard is already working on the next volume and sharing with me the direction he intends to go. We really keep in close touch." Gerard Way is the author of the book of the same name, as well as the frontman of My Chemical Romance. Together with him, the end of the second season was also agreed, which coincides perfectly with the ending of the comic book "The Umbrella Academy: Oblivion".
So the continuity between the book and the TV series is partly assured, but, as anticipated, there will also be some news that will be released from the comic book. In an interview with TV Guide, the showrunner revealed that the third season will give more space to the figure of Sir Reginald, the alien with the appearance of a human being who adopted and reunited the members of the Umbrella Academy but has saved several other children, which so far we have not known.
In the new episodes we will try to better understand what is his mission on Earth and consequently will explain what is the story of the children he saved and especially will shed light on the remaining children born on the same night of the Hargreeves. What happened to them?
There are also other doubts to be clarified: at the end of the second season, a floating cube appeared but no one has explained its value, which could then be revealed in the new episodes. Finally, they will try to understand what is Sparrow Academy.
The Umbrella Academy 3: who will be in the cast?
In addition to the plot, the curiosity of the audience revolves around the cast. In the third season should be reconfirmed the full Hagrevees family. So we will see again Ellen Page (as Vanya Hargreeves), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison Hargreeves), Aidan Gallagher (Five) Tom Hopper (Luther Hargreeves), David Castañeda (Diego Hargreeves), Robert Sheehan (Klaus Hargreeves) and Justin H. Min (Ben Hargreeve or his alter ego).
We will also find again Colm Feore, the actor who plays Reginald. Kate Walsh will probably no longer appear as The Handler, who was killed. Even this is only a hypothesis, in fact, her character has already been resurrected once.
The Umbrella Academy 3: release
Naturally, there is still a long time until an eventual release of the third season. Recall that a good 17 months passed between the first and second and now the filming of TV series in general struggle to resume due to Covid-19. Taking all these events into account, we definitely won't see the new episodes before the end of 2021.
In the meantime, however, we can enjoy the previous seasons on Netflix. Just connect to the platform from any enabled device, such as smart TVs, and search for the title in the appropriate search bar. The episode will start automatically and at that point all that's left to do is delve into the exciting events of the Hagrevees family.
