Chinese ZTE updates its RedMagic smartphone range with a new top of the line gaming device that promises to be very high performance, but the price is great.
It will arrive in Europe next month but ZTE RedMagic 6 is already being anticipated by a wave of technical specifications that make it one of the most powerful smartphones around. Top-notch processor, lots of RAM and a top-notch screen are just some of the features that are already making phone enthusiasts rub their hands.
ZTE's line of devices called RedMagic has always been dedicated to gaming, focusing everything on power, for a high-level gaming experience. Once again, with the 6 series, the choice has been the same and the results are truly noteworthy. With the two phones of the new line coming up, the basic RedMagic 6 model and the even more powerful RedMagic 6 Pro version, the Chinese manufacturer has chosen to offer high-performance models, much more similar to portable gaming consoles than to simple smartphones, even if particularly advanced and with excellent features.
RedMagic 6, how are the two smartphones
Between the two models, basic and pro version, the differences are really only a handful, apart from the color, silver for the first and black for the second. For the rest: the design is perfectly in line with the taste of many of the players: LED lights, buttons on the back and a scratchy style that stands out.
Both mount the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, in addition to the exceptional screen. It's a 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, with an uncommon refresh rate: variable up to 165Hz, along with a 360Hz touch sampling rate. The battery is also the same: 5,050 mAh with support for charging up to 66W.
It's RAM that differentiates the two models, however: 12GB (with 128GB of storage) for the base model and 16GB (with 256GB of storage) for the Pro. Yet, to expand (albeit virtually) the 12GB of the base version there is a compression system such that, according to ZTE claims, is able to replicate the efficiency of the 16GB of the Pro version. To govern everything there is the user interface RedMagic OS 4.0 based on Android 11.
As for the photo module, the design chosen is flush with the body and not in relief. Triple sensors, namely a primary 64MP, a second 8MP with wide-angle lens and a third 2MP complete the equipment. For video, on the other hand, you get 8K at 30fps.
A good setup, although not particularly striking compared to the rest of the hardware as always in gaming smartphones. Finally, on both models there is also 5G (the modem is integrated in the Snapdragon 888) connectivity, dual nanoSIM, NFC connection, 3.5mm minijack slot and USB-C connector.
ZTE RedMagic 6, price and launch date
With this configuration ZTE RedMagic 6 goes to challenge on the same field, that of pure performance in mobile gaming, the best-known competitor ASUS ROG 5, which is priced between 799 and 1.299 euros. The launch date of RedMagic 6 is scheduled in Europe, UK and USA for next April 15, anticipated by the pre-orders available as early as April 9.
The launch price of the Model RedMagic 6 is 599 euros, while it rises slightly for the Pro version, which comes to touch 699 euros. These are very good prices, if we compare them with those of competitors of the same level.
