The new benchmarks among gaming smartphones have just been presented by ASUS: these are the three new models ASUS ROG Phone 5, ASUS ROG Phone 5 Pro and ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate. To characterize them, in addition to a technical card devoted to pure performance, a design impossible to miss thanks to a second small screen, located on the back of the phone in the Pro and Ultimate models.
Second screen aside the three phones for ASUS gamers are identical, vary only the colors available and the amount of RAM and storage memory.
Already the base model, however, is very well equipped in both respects while ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate may even seem excessive. In all three cases, however, we are talking about phones from the excellent screen, excellent performance and a not so excellent photographic compartment. The latter, in fact, on the ROG line of ASUS has always been considered an "accessory": the focus of these three phones is gaming, period.
ASUS ROG Phone 5: technical specifications
Under the shell of the three new gaming smartphones from ASUS beats the now unfailing heart Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm, with Adreno 660 GPU. The five RAM/ROM configurations are: 8/128 GB, 12/256 GB and 16/256 GB on the ASUS ROG Phone 5, 16/518 GB on the ASUS ROG Phone 5 Pro and even 18/512 GB ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate.
The Ultimate model, therefore, is currently the smartphone with the most RAM on the market, more than twice as much as most of the 2020 top of the line and on average a third more than the 2021 top of the line.
On all three smartphones ASUS has mounted a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen, with 2448×1080 pixel resolution and refresh rate up to 144 Hz (a value so high that it is useful only with video games). The photographic compartment is instead entrusted to a main 64 MP with optical stabilizer and Sony IMX686 sensor, flanked by two other sensors of 13 and 5 MP, while the selfie cam is 24 MP.
The battery, on all three models, is nothing short of abundant: 6,000 mAh, with fast charging at 65 Watts. Improved over the previous model (which is the ROG Phone 3, because ASUS has skipped the 4 for superstition), finally, the peculiar feature of this range of smartphones: the AirTrigger, ie the touch areas located on the edge of the smartphone that serve as a gamepad during gaming sessions. Now the AirTriggers are more sensitive and precise.
The small rear screen present on ASUS ROG Phone 5 Pro and Ultimate only serves to show notifications, charge status and whether high performance X mode for gaming is coming.
