A new top-of-the-line smartphone from Sony is coming: unveiled features of Xperia 1 III
Sony might announce another top-of-the-line smartphone very soon: the new Xperia 1 III. The successor to the Xperia 1 II, presented in February 2020, could have a similar design and be equipped with the new powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor.
The first rumors about the features come from the well-known leaker Anthony, aka The Galox on Twitter, who revealed them in a tweet. The Xperia 1 III will be able to count on a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED screen with 21:9 aspect ratio, just like its predecessor. While there's no information yet on the protection, which could be a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 or higher, it seems that Sony's new top of the line will sport a 15% increased screen brightness. The design also remains similar, with the fingerprint reader for unlocking the smartphone placed on the side.
Xperia 1 III, the features of the top of the range
Sony's new top of the range will be equipped with a latest generation Soc, the Snapdragon 888, which will be able to count on 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. The RAM is surprising, given the 12 GB that came with the Xperia 1 II, but it is not excluded that the smartphone could come with different versions to match its predecessor. The Xperia 1 III then supports the 5G connectivity standard and should be certified IP65 or IP68, so it will be waterproof.
The screen is a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display, which according to rumors will be 15% brighter, but there are no confirmations on an increase in refresh rate, stopped at 60 Hz in the predecessor. No indiscretions even on battery capacity and the camera compartment, which will surely be subject to improvement given the excellent quality that distinguishes Sony in the field.
Xperia 1 III: when it arrives and how much it costs
At the moment there is still no launch date for Xperia 1 III, which should be released within the first half of 2021. If Sony will follow the timetable already used for the predecessor Xperia 1 II, it could arrive by next February.
In the tweet of the leaker Anthony does not miss an indiscretion on the launch price, which should be 1199 euros, about 980 euros at current exchange rates, which remains unchanged from the previous model in the series.
