A new Amazon Original movie is coming to the Prime Video streaming platform. Le Bal des Folles tells the life of Eugénie, a woman who discovers that she can hear the dead. This gift, however, will take her to the Parisian psychiatric clinic directed by the famous professor Dr. Charcot, a pioneer of neurology.

The title of the film refers to a key event for the development of the plot: the meeting between the protagonist and the nurse Geneviève during the annual Bal des Folles ball organized by Dr. Chacot in the hospital. An encounter that is destined to change the lives of both. The film produced by Amazon Original was written, directed and starring Mélanie Laurent, who has already starred in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, Spring Wind and tried her hand at directing in Respire. The official trailer for the film has already been released, while Le Bal des Folles will arrive streaming on Prime Video in Italy next September 17.

Le Bal des Folles: the plot

Eugénie is a young woman in the 19th century who discovers she has a special gift: being able to hear the dead. When her family discovers her secret, they have her admitted to the hospital La Pitié Salpétrière, leaving her no other choice. The clinic is directed by Dr. Charcot, considered a pioneer of neurology that deals with psychiatric diseases of women.

In the clinic there are women of all ages diagnosed as crazy, hysterical, egomaniac, epileptic and with all kinds of physical and mental disorders. What changes the destiny of the young protagonist is the meeting with the clinic nurse, Geneviève: preparing the Bal des Folles, organized every year by Dr. Charcot, their destiny will change inexorably.

Mélanie Laurent is actress, screenwriter and director of this new film weblog Amazon Original. The cast also includes Lou de Laâge, Emmanuelle Bercot, Benjamin Voisin, Cédric Khan, Christophe Montenez, Lomane De Dietrich and Grégoire Bonnet.

The film is based on the novel "Le Bal des Folles" by Victoria Mas and was produced by Alain Goldman and co-produced by Axelle Boucaï of Légende Films. Le Bal des Folles will arrive streaming on Prime Video in more than 240 countries, including Italy, next September 17.
