Samsung presents the new smartwatch Galaxy Watch: Tizen operating system , 80 hours of autonomy, sleep and physical activity monitoring
The Galaxy Note 9 was not the only protagonist of the event that Samsung organized in New York on August 9. At Unpacked 2018 was also shown the new Galaxy Watch, the smartwatch of the Korean company that replaces the Gear that is retiring for good.
Samsung opted for the most logical choice: simplify the name of its devices and make them homogeneous. The Galaxy Watch is a very interesting device: circular dial reminiscent of analog watches, battery that should ensure at least four days of autonomy and applications designed specifically for physical training. The Galaxy Watch has been produced in two versions: one with a 42mm screen and the other with a 46mm display (the diagonal is 1.2 inches and 1.3 inches respectively). In addition, each model will also have an LTE version that will arrive on the market (including in Italy) in the coming months.
Features Galaxy Watch
Aboard the smartwatch we find the Exynos 9110 chipset designed specifically for smartwatches. In support there are 768MB of RAM which becomes 1.5GB in the LTE version. The internal memory is 4GB and will be used to install applications. The screen is a Super AMOLED and the size varies very little between the 42mm and 46mm versions. Big difference. Instead, regarding the battery: the model with the larger screen will have a 472mAh battery, while the smaller version 270mAh. In both cases, Samsung has assured that the autonomy will be about 80 hours. The Galaxy Watch has received IP68 certification and military MIL-STD-810G certification that should ensure protection from shocks and falls.
Operating system Galaxy Watch
For its smartwatch Samsung has bet again on the proprietary operating system Tizen that for the occasion has been updated to version 4.0. Denied the rumors that announced the retirement of Tizen and the arrival on Samsung smartwatches of the Android Wear operating system.
Galaxy Watch presents a new version of the Samsung Health application: 21 new exercises that can be done indoors have been added and sleep monitoring has been improved. In addition, tips are given at the end of the exercises on how to stay fit. For those who are undecided whether to abandon their analog watch, the Galaxy Watch is capable of reproducing the noise of the hands and showing virtual hands on the screen. The smartwatch integrates seamlessly into Samsung's IoT ecosystem and is capable of communicating with computers, smartphones and home appliances.
The Galaxy Watch is compatible with Android Lollipop version 5.0 and Apple smartphones above iPhone 5 running iOS 9.
Prices and release date Galaxy Watch
The smartwatch will arrive in Italy starting September 7. The 42mm version will cost 309 euros, while the 46mm model will have to shell out 329 euros. The version with LTE support will arrive later and the price has not yet been announced.
