The 30 euro phone with which you can use WhatsApp

Energizer launches two phones with a battery that lasts a week and that support WhatsApp. The launch price is less than 30 euros

After the failure of the Energizer Power Max P18K, the smartphone with an 18,000 mAh battery that guaranteed a week's autonomy, but did not raise enough funds to start production, the U.S. company returns to the charge with two new devices. This time, however, Energizer changes focus and bets on the dear old cell phones.

The company presented the Energizer E241 and Energizer E241S, two old style cell phones with a physical keyboard that provide good autonomy, but above all support the use of WhatsApp. The merit is the operating system installed on the devices: KaiOS. This is a mobile OS on the rise and increasingly used on low-cost phones: in addition to the installation of WhatsApp allows you to use Facebook, YouTube, Google Assistant and Maps. The two cell phones will also arrive on the Italian market at a very low launch price: 29.99 euros for the Energizer E241 and 34.99 euros for the model a little more powerful and that also supports 4G network.

The characteristics of the Energizer E241 and Energizer E241S

Aesthetically they are two identical smartphones. Both have the classic cell phone design, with a physical T9 keyboard and a 2.4-inch color screen. Under the shell, however, we find the biggest differences. The Energizer E241 mounts a Spreadtrum SC7731E chipset with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD. The "S" model has a Spreadtrum SC9820E chipset with the same amount of RAM and internal storage. The LEnergizer E241S also has support for 4G network.

In the back there is a VGA camera on both phones for taking photos of your travels, while in the front there is a selfie cam. Inevitable is the 3.5mm audio jack for listening to music and the radio.

The battery is 1900 mAh and ensures a battery life of 28 hours in calls, 9 hours in video playback and 6 days on standby.

KaiOS, the operating system for low-cost mobile phones

The real ace up the sleeve of the two Energizer cell phones is the KaiOS operating system. This is a mobile OS that has been on the rise in recent months. Born to be mounted on low-cost devices to be sold in emerging countries, it has quickly become a serious threat to both Android and iOS. So much so that Google has decided to invest in KaiOS as much as 50 million dollars.

For the moment it is only present in cheap devices, which can be purchased for little more than 20-30 euros. The great merit of KaiOS is to have brought applications such as WhatsApp and Facebook inside old cell phones. On the KaiStore, the online store dedicated to cell phones with KaiOS, there are many popular applications: YouTube, Maps and you can also install Google's voice assistant.

How much does the Energizer E241 and Energizer E241S cost

Energizer has bet everything on value for money: the E241 model can be purchased for 29.99 euros, while the "S" version at 34.99 euros.
