Forbes speculates a price above $500 and $550 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Market launch set for November
The price of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be one of the topics that will hold court in the coming months, at least until Sony and Microsoft decide to reveal it in an ad hoc event. In recent weeks, many people's imagination has been sparked about the possible cost of the two consoles, especially after the event of June 11 in which Sony showed the design of the PS5.
After rumors about the price arrived from several sources more or less official (Amazon UK, Amazon France and the site Play-Asia), now it's the turn of Forbes, one of the most important financial magazines in the world. The web version of the magazine hosted the thoughts of video game journalist Paul Tassi, who had his say on the price of both PS5 and Xbox Series X. The journalist goes a little bit against the latest anticipations and assures that the two consoles will not cost less than $500. The production costs are too high: selling them at less than 400-450 dollars would mean to go at a loss, something that Sony and Microsoft don't want to do.
How much does the PS5 and Xbox Series X cost
Paul Tassi's reasoning follows its own logic: the cost of the components of the two consoles is quite high and a launch price below 500 dollars wouldn't allow to pay back the expenses.
On the PS5 front, the journalist sets the launch price at $550 for the model with Blu-Ray player, while for the Digital Edition version the price could be $500. On the European and Italian markets, prices could be very similar: 550 euros and 500 euros.
The Xbox Series X will also have a similar launch price: between $500 and $550. Different discussion regarding the Xbox Lockheart, the low-cost model on which Microsoft is working, but has not yet presented. In this case it is conceivable that the launch price is less than $400, but everything will depend on the internal components.
When the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X come out
On the release date there are still many doubts. The only thing certain is that it will be during the 2020 holiday season. It is speculated that the launch will take place just before Black Friday 2020, set for November 27, 2020, in order to drive sales, especially at a time in history when the financial crisis could be heavily felt by families.
