Iliad has announced its arrival on the fixed telephony market: closed the agreement with Open Fiber. Here's when it arrives and possible offers
Iliad lands in the fixed network market thanks to the agreement signed with Open Fiber. The news was in the air for some time now and now is announced by the same telephone operator through a press release: Open Fiber will be the technological and technical partner that will work alongside Iliad in the fixed line market. A choice identical to that made by Sky, which recently came on the market with the offer SkyWiFi and that relies on the network that is building Open Fiber.
The company participated by Enel and Casa Depositi e Prestiti has the goal of wiring the entire Italian territory with a fiber network ultra-fast and for the moment is present in a hundred Italian municipalities, but within the next few years the network will be enlarged. In the press release, however, there is no reference either on when the first offers will arrive or how the rates will be. Iliad speaks in a generic way of convergence between fixed and mobile phones, a signal that could hint at discounts for those who are already subscribers to Iliad.

"The growing demand for connectivity in recent months has prompted us to accelerate the pace for entry into the fixed segment and the partnership with Open Fiber is the first step in this direction." With these words Benedetto Levi, CEO of Iliad, announced the landing of the phone operator also in the world of fixed telephony. And it does so with a framework agreement signed with Open Fiber that will provide the network and high-speed fiber.
As we had pre-announced in recent weeks, the Coronavirus has made Iliad change its mind, which had initially set the arrival of the first offers for the fixed network by 2024. Market conditions, however, have changed and the operator has accelerated to quickly close a deal with Open Fiber.
Iliad, first fiber offers arrive
It's too early to talk about what Iliad's fixed-line offers will look like, but the press release highlights an important fact: the convergence of fixed and mobile. This means something quite simple: Iliad will make all inclusive offers, which include both the monthly subscription to fiber and the cell phone. Offers that will reflect the philosophy of the operator: low and fixed prices, without any hidden cost.
It is not to be excluded also some partnership with some video streaming service to offer an even more complete package that includes internet connection plus exclusive content.
When Iliad offers arrive for the home phone
Also under this point of view there are no official news. The most likely date is 2021, it is unlikely that Iliad will be able to launch its offers for fixed telephony already this year.
