Nintendo Switch Lite official: when it comes out and how much it costs

Nintendo has made official the launch for September 20, 2019 of the Switch Lite: smaller size and joypad integrated into the body

It's official: the next Nintendo-branded console will be called Nintendo Switch Lite and not, as was believed until yesterday, Nintendo Switch Mini. But, apart from the name, its main feature is confirmed: it is a simple portable console, no longer a hybrid console. It will arrive on the market on September 20, 2019 at a price of about $200.

With the Nintendo Switch Lite portable, users must say goodbye to the possibility of connecting the console to an external screen or dock and remove the Joy-Cons (which, in fact, in the package are not even there). However, it is still possible to connect the Joy-Cons of a classic Nintendo Switch to the Switch Lite, to continue playing those titles based precisely on this type of controller. No TV Mode or Tablet Mode for the Nintendo Switch Lite, which is only compatible with games on cartridges that use the classic handheld mode.

Nintendo Switch Lite: technical features

Being in fact a Switch Mini, the Lite has a screen always capacitive but smaller: 5.5 inches against 6.3 of the older sister. The resolution, however, remains the same: 1280×720. The processor used is a custom Nvidia Tegra and the internal memory is 32 GB. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC. There's no more HD Rumble or Infrared Motion Camera. Any video output is obviously missing, while the headphone jack remains and there's a USB Type-C port. The dimensions are 91X208X14 millimeters while the weight isn't much less than the regular Switch: 275 grams versus 297. The 3,570 mAh battery will allow about 5-6 hours of gaming and will recharge in 3 hours.

Nintendo Switch: date, price and colors

The Nintendo Switch Lite's launch date is set for September 20. It will be sold in three colors: yellow, gray and turquoise. Later, in early November, will come a special version Zacian & Zamazenta, gray in color with cyan and magenta buttons, which carries images of Pokémon Sword and Shield on the back. The price of the Nintendo Switch Lite at launch will be $ 199.99 and, given that at the moment the normal Switch is found starting at about 300 euros, it is not excluded that in a few months (past Christmas, of course) you can find the Lite to a few tens of euros less.
