The trick to enable dark mode on WhatsApp Web

To enable dark mode on WhatsApp Web, you need to make a small change to the page code. Here are the steps to follow

Dark mode arrives (almost) officially also on WhatsApp Web, the desktop version of the world's most used messaging app. To make the announcement, as always, are the guys at WaBetaInfo on their official blog. They are now a few weeks that developers are developing and testing the dark mode on WhatsApp Web, but the official release has not yet been there (for the smartphone and tablet version is now available for a couple of months, after a development lasted more than a year).

To activate it, in fact, you need to resort to a trick not exactly simple. If you are not very familiar with the world of computers, in fact, you may have some difficulty in being able to activate dark mode on WhatsApp Web. You need to use the Inspect function of your browser and change a string in the source code. An operation that takes a few minutes, but that can create a bit of headache: here's how to do it.

How to activate dark mode on WhatsApp Web

The guys at WaBetaInfo have discovered a procedure that allows you to activate dark mode on WhatsApp Web before the official release of the function. It only takes a few steps to do it, but you have to be very precise.

First you have to open WhatsApp Web and sign in with your credentials, using the QR Code that is shown on your smartphone. Once you have completed this step, the somewhat more complicated part begins. You have to right-click outside the chat and then press Inspect. A window will open with the app's code string. At this point you have to find the string "body class= web", select it by pressing "Edit as HTML" and replace it with "body class= dark web". Close the Inspect window and magically dark mode will be activated on WhatsApp Web.

What does it change? Practically nothing in terms of functionality, while the colors of the GUI are distorted, as is the case with dark mode on the smartphone app. Black predominates over everything, while white remains only for messages.

The change, however, is only temporary: just reload the page to return to the light mode. Moreover, by doing some tests we have seen that activating this feature, the messages arrive with a few minutes delay. The advice, therefore, is to wait for the release of the official version.
